P4P flyweight boss Roman Gonzalez makes his second HBO appearance on October 17th’s Gennady Golovkin/David Lemieux middleweight unification PPV, with Hawaiian Brian Viloria now the most likely to be squaring off against the Nicaraguan star.
It had been thought that Viloria, who is coming off a 1st round knockout of journeyman fighter Omar Soto at the end of last month, was an outside shot behind both Mexico’s Giovani Segura (37-4-1, 28kos) and McWilliams Arroyo (16-2, 14kos), although Gonzalez’s manager Carlos Blandon has confirmed to ESPN.com that Viloria is indeed now the front runner.
“Everything is pointing towards Viloria,” he said. “I’m glad Viloria’s team jumped back in the race. I believe he is an excellent fighter and will help Roman give another amazing performance.
Promoters Top Rank, who promised Viloria a title shot following the Soto win have confirmed that the American’s team are indeed also keen on the fight, with vice president Carl Moretti confirming;
“There was a conversation about it amongst us on Thursday,” he said.
Broadcaster HBO are keen on another Golovkin “Big Drama Show,” with Gonzalez in chief support after both men delivered in style on the same card back in May, defeating Willie Monroe and Edgar Sosa respectively.
