Fresh off his history-making win over Michelle Di Rocco last night, new WBA super-lightweight king Ricky Burns is understandably feeling great – great enough to suggest he would gladly accept a rematch with the man who ended his lightweight reign, Terence Crawford.
The now three-weight champ says he has plenty of big fight options – at both 140 and 135-pounds – including Crawford (or Viktor Postol if he beats Crawford in their July unification meeting) and Adrian Broner.
Indeed, Burns, at age 33, has really turned his career around. Looking all but finished a few months ago, the Scottish hero is now back where he belongs.
Already , Burns has to be in with a shout at wining Comeback Of The Year award, while if he were to somehow reverse his comprehensive loss to pound for pound star Crawford, he really would have shown true greatness. Okay, let’s not get carried away, but Burns proved again last night in Glasgow that he is never, ever a fighter to write off.
For now, whatever his next move might be, let’s all hope Burns enjoys his latest victory.
