Povetkin vs. Klitschko at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil?

wladimir1000It took Alexander Povetkin many years to finally earn and secure a bout against Wladimir Klitschko. The hype as well as the amount of money spent on marketing was colossal, and Moscow was breaking at the seams with enthusiasm of what the fight could have brought. As a matter of fact, there hasn’t been a thrilling heavyweight boxing match in an extensive period of time, and this one, Klitschko vs. Povetkin, was supposed to be it.

Unfortunately the fight turned out the same as all other Klitschko fights: Wladimir dominating the match with his size and slow paced tactical approach. Wladimir Klitschko gets the job done, but most of the time, the boxing fans as well as the ticket-holders voice their dislike for his slow and “boring” style.

After the fight, Povetkin stated that he was not at all happy with his performance, and if he had just a few more rounds, he could have finally gotten to Wladimir’s chin. He also mentioned that he intends to work his way back to a rematch with Klitschko as soon as possible.

In order for that to happen, Povetkin needs to become a mandatory, which might take a lot longer than he anticipates. Since WBA has dropped Povektin in ratings, it will take more than a victory to get back in the #1 spot.

Looking for revenge, Povetkin might have found another way to get himself across from Wladimir in the ring yet again. Apparently, Povektin has recently stated that he would like to take part in the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, where Wladimir Klitschko was also interesting in participating. At this point, there are numerous contradicting articles on whether the Ukrainian champion will be allowed to fight in the Olympics, as the event is aimed towards an amateur pool of boxers.
