Bored from waiting, and waiting, and waiting for something to be announced regarding the Tyson Fury-Wladimir Klitschko rematch? If so, Peter Fury’s recent Tweet might help you. The trainer and uncle of the reigning heavyweight champion wrote the following on social media a few hours ago:

“Some big news coming imminently on @Tyson_Fury @Klitschko venue/date/country. Expect announcements in next 24/48 hours!!”

If the big return fight is announced on Saturday (the day of the Anthony Joshua-Charles Martin fight!) fans everywhere will no doubt respond with a, “thank goodness for that” or a, “finally!”

It really did look as though the fight would never come (and until the fight is actually announced, fans will probably remain sceptical). But at least we now know there is some positive news coming. Peter Fury followed up his Tweet with another one, which also proved intriguing:

“Bringing massive fights to England for the fans & clean up the division. Their (sic) should only be one champion & our aim is doing it & FAST!”

For there to be only one heavyweight champion, and for it to be Tyson fury – Fury would have to take on and defeat, Deontay Wilder (WBC champ) the winner of the Joshua-Martin fight (IBF title, stripped from Fury as quick as you like after he’d won it from Klitschko, who he also took the WBA, WBO and Ring Magazine belts from) and Luis Ortiz (regular WBA champ) and Lucas Browne (unless Browne is stripped of his version of the WBA belt for failing that drugs test the Australian is currently appealing).

Those fights, if they took place – and it would be hugely unlikely more than two of them at the most would be staged in the UK – would of course be great for the fans. But it seems to take forever these days for the big heavyweight fights to get made. Wilder has to get past Alexander Povetkin in May before he can look at facing Fury, who in turn must defeat Klitschko for a second time whenever that fight is finally fought, and Ortiz has to fight Alexander Ustinov by the end of June before he can look at trying to unify the belts.

Of the current champions (or soon to be current) Joshua looks the most likely to be able to fight Fury any time soon. Let’s get that Fury-Klitschko rematch done and dusted first though. If the sequel is announced on Saturday, will the news overshadow the Joshua-Martin fight?
