Paul Smith to get a big fight if he wins on February 21st

If Paul Smith can become the WBO world champion in his fight against Arthur Abraham he is promised a huge fight. Who that would be is unsure but Eddie Hearn has tossed around names such as James DeGale, George Groves or Carl Froch even. Whether any of these type of fights will come off remains to be seen but first of all Smith has to pull the Abraham victory out of the bag.

In the first fight I had Smith losing to Abraham but the scores must have been closer than the ones the judges has on the night. 111-117 twice and 109-119, were the final scores and the moment they were announced there was outrage amongst the Smith fans.

There was a feeling that it would be close and a narrow split/mixed decision or even a draw could be the result but when such dominant figures were revealed it a very strange situation to see and it is clear that the public as a whole agrees with this as they have made the effort to press for the rematch. It isn’t everyday that an unheralded challenger such as Paul Smith comes out of the blue and has back to back title shots against the same champion, but it goes to show how close the first encounter really was.

Anyway best of luck to both fighters on the night, but at the end of the day this is a make or break fight for Smith and we could see this being the start of a string of big fights or the last title attempt of his career.
