Paul Malignaggi beats Laszlo Fazekas

On Saturday 26, Principe theater looked like an Italian soccer stadium for Paul Malignaggi’s fight against Laszlo Fazekas. The building was sold-out (550 people) and the fans rowdly supported Malignaggi who won on points after 8 rounds. Fazekas didn’t come to be just the opponent and he proved it hitting Malignaggi’s face many times. The Hungarian was also deducted a point for his rugged tactics (a couple of times it seemed that Fazekas wanted to make it a bar brawl). After the victory, fans surrounded Malignaggi asking for autographs and selfies. The dressing room was just a few meters away from the ring, but the Magic Man needed several minutes to reach it because of the crowd. He was also interviewed by ESPN who sent a journalist to Milan to write a piece for their website.

On the undercard, welterweight Antonio Moscatiello defeated Jozsef Gerebecz (KO3). Super lightweight Renato De Donato beat Gyula Tallosi (KO4).

The weigh-in of Paul Malignaggi’s Italian debut was held today at Dixieland Cafè in Milan. Tomorrrow the former super lightweight and welterweight world champion Malignaggi (33-7) will fight against Hungarian Laszlo Fazekas (27 wins, 21 losses, 1 draw and 1 no-contest) on the 8 rounds distance in the main event of a show promoted by Principe Boxing Events and OPI 2000 at famed Principe Theater in Milan. The theater is the Milanese version of New York’s B.B. King Blues Club and Grill: it has a capacity of 550 people, 300 seats on the first floor and 250 people standing up on the second floor and the charm of being an historic venue for boxing. From 1949 to 1961 it hosted the fights of many great Italian fighters. In 1960 it was also the set of a movie who made history: “Rocco e I suoi fratelli” directed by Luchino Visconti and starring future French legend Alain Delon.

Principe Boxing Events has sold all the tickets for Paul Malignaggi’s Italian debut next Saturday at Principe theater in Milan. The former two divisions’ world champion Malignaggi (33-7) will fight Hugarian Laszlo Fazekas (27 wins, 21 losses, 1 draw and 1 no-contest) on the 8 rounds distance.

Paul Malignaggi’s Italian fight: the opponent is Hungary’s Laszlo Fazekas

Paul Malignaggi’s Italian fight on September 26 at Principe theater in Milan was announced a couple of weeks ago. Now we also know the name of his opponent: Hungarian Laszlo Fazekas, who has fought professionally 50 times building a record of 27 wins (17 kos), 21 losses, 1 draw and 1 no-contest. He fought many times in the U.K. always producing a good performance. There’s also a second news: the fight will be on the eight rounds distance (rather than the scheduled six rounds).

Besides the former two weight divisions world champion Malignaggi, OPI 2000 and Principe Boxing Events will offer two meaningful fights involving former Italian champions Antonio Moscatiello (welterweight) and Renato De Donato (super lightweight) against Hungarian counterparts. Power-puncher Moscatiello (18 wins-2 defeats-1 draw) will fight Jozsef Gerebecz (7-13-2). Moscatiello comes from several months of inactivity due to eye surgery (detached retina). De Donato will fight Gyula Tallosi (9-5). De Donato wants to challenge current Italian super lightweight champion Andrea Scarpa (whom he lost the belt to) and must produce a great performance to get the opportunity.

Paul Malignaggi will fight in Italy on Sept 26

Former two-time world champion Paul Malignaggi will make one of his dreams come true on September 26 when he fights in the main event of a show at famed Principe theater in Milan. That’s what the Magic Man says about it: “Fighting in Italy has always been my desire as I was born in New York from Italian parents, I lived the first six years of my life in Italy and I visited my ancestral country (whose language I speak perfectly) countless times.”

Malignaggi (33-7) will fight on the six rounds distance; the opponent will be announced soon.

On the undercard, two fights involving former Italian champions: welterweight Antonio Moscatiello (18 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw) and super lightweight Renato De Donato (15-3) will fight on the six rounds distance against two opponents to be announced.

The September 26 show is co-promoted by Principe Boxing Events led by Alessandro Cherchi and OPI 2000, the company led by Salvatore Cherchi (Alessandro’s father).
