Pacquiao: “You’ll see that I’m back in the old days when I was young.”

After 63 professional bouts, many of them against not notch world champions, it would be plausible to say that Manny Pacquiao’s boxing career has probably run its course. This belief has been highlighted, even exaggerated due to 2 losses in 2012: a SD loss to Timothy Bradley, and of course the 6th round knockout loss to Pacquiao’s nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez. Clearing a loss is much more than just winning a couple of fights, which Pacquiao did against Brandon Rios in 2013 and Timothy Bradley in April of this year.

Being a consistent, dominant, and exhilarating champion molds a certain trust between fans and fighters. Manny Pacquiao was not just a world boxing champion to his loyal fans, he was something more. Pacman was a freight train, a ball of power and energy that was not to be reckoned with. After the two losses, the idea of Pacquiao being an unstoppable force has faded, and the man that was, is not expected to show up ever again.

Manny on the other hand, says promises otherwise: “It’s all set. We did our best in training, my team, they’re very happy with this camp. You’ll see that I’m back in the old days when I was young. The speed, the power, and aggressiveness is back again,” stated Pacquiao.

Performing the way he did when he was younger is a very crucial part of his fight against Chris Algieri. A decision victory might simply not be enough to convince the fans as well as the analysts that Pacquiao is ready to face the likes of Floyd Mayweather Jr., and possibly a rematch against Juan Manuel Marquez, which according to Fernando Beltran is apparently now an option.

“We’ll see what happens after this fight,” said Beltran in a recent interview in Macau, China. “But I will not force him. He (Marquez) wants a fifth title and Manny has it,” concluded Beltran.

The fight against Algieri appears to have a lot riding on it for both fighters. Its significance is somewhat misrepresented, but in reality, it seems that the future along with a colossal amount of money is based on their respective performances.
