Pacquiao responds to Mayweather Tweet, calls him uneducated

WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao has responded to WBA/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr’s latest tweet by calling him an “uneducated person” after Mayweather had said that Pacquiao is desperate and that his PPV numbers are a joke.

“I’m not angry at him,” Pacquiao said to gmanetwork.com. “I still feel sorry for him, because he acts like an uneducated person. It’s pitiful to me and I pray for him.”

Pacquiao actually got the ball rolling in taking a shot at Mayweather first last week in Tweeting the following remark: “Floyd Mayweather’s testimony on All Access authenticity tells me everything I need to know about his desire to fight me.”

Pacquiao made this comment on September 24th. Mayweather then came back two days later and said “My new boxing DVD is coming soon and is called ‘3 ways to sleep.’ Back, face and butt and I’m falling and I can’t get up. Miss Pac Man is broke and desperate for a payday. Your pay-per-view numbers are a joke.”

Mayweather does seem to have a good point about Pacquiao’s PPV numbers dropping, because they’ve clearly tanked since Juan Manuel Marquez stopped fighting Pacquiao back in 2012. With Marquez, Pacquiao’s numbers have dropped off dramatically in his last two fights.

Whether that’s a case of boxing fans losing interest in Pacquiao’s fights due to his knockout loss to Marquez or because the fans were bored by the poor match-making that Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum has done with him for the last two fights is unclear. It was a bad idea for Arum to put Pacquiao in with Brandon Rios and Tim Bradley because those fights had low PPV buys written all over them.

As far as Pacquiao calling Mayweather uneducated, I’m not there are a lot of boxers that have outstanding educations besides Chris Algieri. Mayweather’s lack of education doesn’t seem to have hurt his pocketbook any, has it? There are a lot of educated people in the world making far, far less than Mayweather. It would seem to me that Mayweather has become a success in spite of the fact that he didn’t grind out 4 years of college in order to get a job.
