By James Slater – Promoter Bob Arum is currently on his way to The Philipinnes to speak with his fighter, superstar Manny Pacquiao. The topic of conversation will be Pac-Man’s upcoming November 10th fight.
Speaking with ESPN.com, the Top Rank boss said the three fighters on the list for Nov.10th are Tim Bradley,Miguel Cotto and Juan Manuel Marquez. So, Pacquiao will be engaging in a rematch whoever he picks from the list of three.
Arum said he then hopes the long (very long) awaited Pacquiao-Mayweather fight will happen next spring (Arum says November will be too early, what with Floyd just getting out of prison).
With regards to a Pacquiao-Cotto II, Arum says he thinks Pacquiao would agree to fight Cotto at 150-pounds in a return. This would still be a tough job for Cotto, however, and the 154-pounder is reportedly looking at moving up to Middleweight, possibly in his next bout, planned for December. Of course, Cotto could change his plans, especially if he really wants a shot at revenge against Pacquiao.
Personally, I think Pacquiao will opt for a return meeting with Bradley, the man who so controversially out-pointed him in June. Pacquiao has never really been able to get to grips with Marquez and his superb counter-punching style, therefore a fourth meeting may not be all that appealing to him. But a chance at a revenge fight of his own, against the man known as “Desert Storm?” Pacquiao will be up for this, I’m sure.
These two fine fighters have unfinished business, it’s as simple as that. My money is on Pacquiao-Bradley II going down in Vegas on Nov. 10th. But what if Bradley shocks the boxing world for a second time? Would we say a permanent goodbye to Pacquiao vs. Mayweather?
