WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (46-0, 26 KO’s) won a disputed 12 round majority decision over WBA 147lb belt holder Marcos Maidana (35-4, 31 KO’s) on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fans disagreed with the decision from the three judges, as they loudly booed the decision. The judges scored 116-112, 117-111 for Mayweather and 114-114 even.

Many of the rounds were very close due to the constant heat that Maidana was putting on Mayweather while pressuring him against the ropes. Mayweather was nearly helpless when Maidana had him on the ropes, and he had to hold in order to slow the tough Argentinian down. In the first three rounds, Mayweather tried to fight Maidana off the ropes, but he was not in Maidana’s league on the inside and he took a lot of punishment.

It was difficult to agree with the decision because Maidana clearly won 6-7 rounds of the fight due to him having Mayweather backed against the ropes. Mayweather looked sensational in rounds 9 and 10, but those were the only rounds in the fight that he clearly won.

Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KO’s) beat Luis Collazo (35-6, 18 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision by the scores of 119-104, 117-106, and 119-104. Khan captured the WBC Silver welterweight title with the victory. Khan looked good at times with his fast hands, but he held far too much and he moved way too much as well. Khan knocked Collazo down three times in the fight.

Collazo lost a point in the 8th round when he hit Khan with a low blow. At the time Khan was yanking down on Collazo’s head, and it looked like out of frustration, Collazo hit Khan low. The referee kept warning Collazo about having his head low each time Khan would pull his head down, but in looking at the fight in slow motion, Khan was grabbing Collazo with his head straight up and was pulling it down. It was surprising that the referee could fail to notice that Khan was pulling down on Collazo’s head.

“The crowd wants to see me fight Mayweather. I don’t think anyone can beat me in a boxing fight,” Khan said.

Khan said he’d like to fight Mayweather, but he can’t fight him in September due to Ramadan. Khan wants Mayweather to move his next fight date from September to November.

Adrien Broner (28-1, 22 KO’s) defeated Carlos Molina (17-2-1, 7 KO’s) by a 10 round unanimous decision. Broner was unable to hurt Molina with his shots the way Khan did in stopping Molina in 10 rounds two years ago. Broner’s lack of hand speed and his lack of combinations hurt his ability to get a stoppage. The final judges scores were 99-91, 99-92, and 100-90.

Broner body slammed Molina in the 3rd, and was given a warning with no points taken off. It looked a wrestling move that Broner made and it was surprising that Molina wasn’t badly hurt from the throw.
This wasn’t the kind of performance that made fans forget about how bad Broner looked in his loss to Maidana.

Broner made a controversial remark after the fight about Mexicans when interviewed by Jim Gray of Showtime.
