For a week or so now, it’s been something of an open secret in boxing circles that interim WBA middleweight titlist Chris Eubank Jr will be signing with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Sport.

The news became official today with the ‘unveiling’ of the British legend’s son at a press conference in London, announcing that he will indeed box on both the October 24th Brook v Chaves bill in Sheffield, as well as making a second outing in December on the Joshua/Whyte card at the O2 as part of an initial 3-fight deal.

Adam Booth – the man who masterminded the rise of former cruiser and heavyweight boss, David Haye and who currently guides WBO 160 lb champion Andy Lee – will assist veteran trainer Ronnie Davies in the Brighton man’s corner, joining the team officially as “coach.”

Chris Eubank Snr – guided by Hearn’s father Barry in the 1990’s – and speaking at the conference, stated he was excited by the opportunities the signing will present his son, who is mandatory challenger to WBA (reg) champion, Danny Jacobs -who himself fights fellow New Yorker Peter Quillin in the city later this year.

Eubank Jr hasn’t been in the ring since February’s title winning effort over Dmitry Chudinov, and expressed his own desire to shake off the ring-rust, saying;

“”I’ve only fought once this year so to have two fights in quick succession in October and December is perfect for me.”

Speaking separately to Sky Sports, Hearn said;

“I’m very excited to be working with Chris Eubank Jr. I’ve enjoyed seeing his career evolve and now it’s time to take it to the next level.”
