While Pacquiao’s possible impending retirement is a hot topic in boxing, his next opponent is also of much interest. Since it is assumed that Pacquiao doesn’t have much time left in the sport of boxing, although it is hard to say when he will actually hang em’ up, boxing fans are hopeful for a few good fights.

In a recent interview Manny threw a bit of a curve-ball, mentioning that camp Pacquiao is not only talking to camp Khan about a possible bout, but is also apparently negotiating with recently retired Mayweather Jr.

As Pacquiao slowly transitions into a full throttle political career, he will likely outgrow his temptation to fight, and a comeback will be highly unlikely. In other words, I believe that once Pacquiao retires, he will not be enticed back into the ring.

With Mayweather Jr. supposedly leaving the sport of boxing on a low note, with one fight away from a possible 50-0-0 record, and a very unimpressive PPV numbers against Andre Berto, a retirement from his “retirement” is very likely.

Despite the fact that many boxing fans felt that their first fight was a bit too lackluster for the expectations and the price, a good PPV numbers for a rematch are not out of reach. By announcing his shoulder injury, Pacquiao may have bought the potential rematch some credibility, restoring faith in his abilities if the fight was to take place again.

Having said all that, it seems as though Pacquiao is the only one negotiating, because Bob Arum of Top Rank claims that he has no knowledge of this: “”I have no idea what he’s talking about. He said it, not me. But I have had no talks with anyone about that. None. Zero. Not one. Mayweather is retired and I take him at his word,” stated Arum in a recent interview.
