Two dangerous and avoided heavyweights will meet each other next month in Monaco, as Luis Ortiz will face Carlos Takam in a scheduled big card, according to reports in Spanish media.
Ortiz, who split with Golden Boy earlier this year, is just happy to see some action, while the same could be said of Takam. Last seen losing a close and competetive decision to unbeaten Joseph Parker, Takam too will be eager to get back in the ring.
Ortiz, last seen doing away with Ttony Thompson, is also hoping he will at last be able to get the big fights. The Cuban southpaw’s chances might improve now that the division has opened up in a big way, with the troubled Tyson Fury’s belts likely to be vacant very soon.
Takam, though, could give Ortiz a tough time. We can likely expect a good, hard fight from these two somewhat desperate, certainly hungry heavyweights.
Can Ortiz impress by halting the man a couple of years his junior at age 35, or will Takam make yet another good fighter look ordinary?
Look for Ortiz to win a hard-fought decision. But will the top names of the division then be any more enthusiastic about facing the man known as “King Kong?”
