Lemieux: I Saw Caution In Golovkin’s Eyes

Ahead of his massive middleweight unification against Gennady Golovkin at Madison Square Garden this weekend, big-hitting IBF champion David Lemieux has promised he is going in ‘with a nice package to deliver.’

Evidently referring to his vaunted knockout power, the French-Canadian champion is relishing the underdog tag, which he claims will make victory all the sweeter when he manages to detonate on Golovkin’s chin, claiming that in the face-to-face with HBO’s Max Kellerman, he saw ‘caution’ in the WBA champion’s eyes.

“I saw [in his eyes] what I needed to see…Caution,” Lemieux said to assembled media via iFLtv. “He’s a well rounded up guy and it’s gonna be a lion up against another lion in there.

“It’s gonna be a big fight, a big challenge and he’s very confident in his abilities; I don’t doubt it but he’s aware of what I bring to the table and it’s gonna be a serious fight.”

Lemieux is also dismissive of the words of Golovkin’s oft-vocal trainer, Abel Sanchez, who claims that Lemieux won’t see the bell for the 5th round on Saturday night once the Kazakh begins tearing into him.

“I don’t pay any attention to what he says because I’m not fighting Abel Sanchez, I’m fighting Golovkin. He can say what he wants to boost up his fighter but it means nothing to me.

“If that’s what [Sanchez] said then he will swallow his words. I am very confident in my abilities and I’ll be leaving Madison Square Garden with the belts,” he added. “A lot of people are gonna be surprised.”

Golovkin/Lemiuex is on HBO PPV in the US and Boxnation in the UK.
