Klitschko: Fury Has A Big Mouth Just Like David Haye

Fight fans won’t have to cast their minds too far back to Hamburg, Germany – July 2011 and the now infamous “Toe-Gate” saga that engulfed David Haye’s failure to back up his promises and dethrone Wladimir Klitschko. All the distasteful pre-fight talk and T-shirts depicting the severed heads of the two fighting brothers all amounted to a dodgy toe and an underwhelming performance in the end.

Since that night, the dominant champion has marched on ahead with his career and scalped a further 8 opponents, stopping or knocking out 5 of them – and ahead of his latest challenger, giant Brit Tyson Fury – whom he fights in October – Klitschko has spoken to ESPN to say he suspects the Brit fighter is going to be just like his countryman – all mouth.

He said;

“The fight with Fury is pretty much the same situation it was with David Haye. Fury does have a big mouth and he’s more famous for that than his fighting. I have experience of fighting a British guy with a big mouth.”

The incredibly shrewd Klitschko is also aware that’s where the similarities end mind you, with Fury a full 6 inches taller than former cruiserweight boss Haye, and 3 inches taller than Wlad himself. Fury’s habit of switch-hitting is also a consideration for the champion.

“I did fight a tall guy Maruisz Wach (w/UD). I have experience with that as well. And I have fought undefeated guys but not a guy that size who changes from right-handed to southpaw like Fury does. He switches sides very comfortably.”

“I believe the hype for this fight will be similar or even more than the Haye fight but David Haye was a cruiserweight. This guy is a massive guy, tall, a true heavyweight – a big mouth and undefeated. It is a real threat so to say, for the champion, which in this case is me. Many people will look forward to how the champ is going to handle it.”

“Fury’s young, he’s a little bit off in his head but he is going to come to fight. David Haye pushed me with all his talk and I had fun with it. It was very tense but it was fun. I think with Tyson Fury, who knows what he will do? I look forward to it and the press conferences will not be boring.”

“Yet I have heard it before and seen it before.” said the champion, sounding a cautionary warning to his young challenger.
