Khan encouraging his twitter followers to push for Mayweather fight

Showing signs of worry about his status for his proposed May 3rd fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr., Amir Khan is now encouraging his 1.4 million twitter followers to work in his favor to exert pressure on Mayweather Jr. to force him to give him the fight next. Khan did the same tactics to win the twitter/Facebook book in his competition with Marcos Maidana in the poll that Mayweather had created at his promotions website. Khan asked his 1.4 million followers to go to the website and vote for him, and they responded by helping him overcome a huge deficit to defeat Maidana in the poll by a margin of 57% to 43%.

Khan also had this to say on his twitter account: “What do you think.. Was the @FloydMayweather poll a publicity stunt? We sure will find out soon.”

If Mayweather chances his mind about having the winner of the poll select his next opponent then that’s his decision. A businessman never make a decision unless it’s the best thing for him. That means making changes when a need arises and not just staying the course if it doesn’t work for him. If Mayweather did change his mind about wanting to fight the winner of the poll, then he’s probably got a good reason. Khan is not the ideal guy for Mayweather to be fighting on Cinco de Mayo if he wants to get the Mexican fans to watch the fight. In this case, perhaps Maidana is the better guy for that fight.

Khan can find a spot on the undercard of Mayweather’s next fight by agreeing to fight Adrien Broner, and in that way Khan could actually earn a big money fight against Mayweather instead of having the fight given to him for encouraging his 1.4 million followers to vote him in. Khan’s last two victories over Carlos Molina and Julio Diaz aren’t big enough wins for him to be considered a solid choice for Mayweather to fight. That’s why Khan should step up and face Broner – or some other good welterweight – and prove that he belongs in the ring with Mayweather, because right now you can’t say that he does deserve to be in with him.
