Khan-Collazo collide on Mayweather’s May 3rd Undercard

Amir Khan will be making his case to win the next Floyd Mayweather Jr sweepstakes on Mayweather’s May 3rd undercard when he faces former WBA welterweight champion Luis Collazo at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Khan will be moving up to the welterweight division to face a true welterweight in Collazo. Collazo is coming off his second round knockout of Victor Ortiz last January.

Collazo is no pushover and always comes to fight. If Khan is not careful he might be on the end of a knockout punch similar to the one Ortiz suffered. Khan is really taking a step up after he had trouble with Julio Diaz in his last fight.

Diaz was able to hurt Khan during their contest but luckily Khan survived and went on to defeat him by a 12 round decision last April. In his fight before that, Khan defeated 5’5 1/2″ Carlos Molina by a 10th round TKO in December of 2012. Molina will be fighting Adrien Broner on the Mayweather-Maidana fight card.

Khan believes if he wins this fight against Collazo, he will finally get a crack at Floyd. A fight against Mayweathe is the ultimate prize for any fighter right now because Collazo is looking for the same opportunity to face Floyd as well.

This fight will be a tough fight for Amir Khan and I’m not sure it will help him much in getting the Floyd fight. Once fans see him struggle they will say he doesn’t deserve the Floyd fight. I know styles make fights so I know he will make the fight with Floyd interesting but in no way do I think he comes out with a victory. The Khan-Collazo fight will be the co-main event to Mayweather-Maidana.
