Kenny Porter: ‘Broner’s Like a Little Kid Who’s Out of Control’ / Doubts He Wants to Rematch Shawn

Former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter got the better of Ohioan rival and professional motor-mouth Adrien Broner back in June, outclassing and out hustling “The Problem” who never really got going until scoring a 12th round knockdown – a case of too little, too late.

As his son now waits for news on his next fight, father and trainer Kenny has spoken out to say he very much doubts that Broner would want any part of a rematch, calling him an “actor” who couldn’t play the part of a fighter when he got in the ring with Shawn.

Broner was particularly vocal in the build up to the fight, taking pot-shots at Kenny, accusing the Snr Porter of mismanaging his son’s finances for personal gain among other things, something Porter didn’t take kindly too.

“He’s still just a little kid who’s out of control, and you have to snatch him up when he’s out of control – and he’s always gonna be that way,” he said to ‘thaboxingvoice’ with regards to Broner.

“He probably ain’t gonna grow up no time soon. He ain’t gonna stop doing what he doing. What grown man runs around acting like that? That’s not adult. You have to be adult at all times. That’s not being a man.”

It wasn’t so long ago that Broner was walking around with the “next big thing” tag on his head after winning his first world title at 130 lbs while still 22 years old, and after winning titles at 135 and 147lbs, the wheels seemingly fell off after being beaten and decked twice by Marcos Maidana back in December 2013.

Asked if there is a road back to the top for Broner, Kenny said;

“He has the ability to do it. A lot of things have to be straightened out but the ability is there.”

“He can get the rematch, (with Shawn) we haven’t got a problem giving the rematch but I ain’t getting no phone calls. They’re not calling us, they’re not texting us, we’re not getting no information from them saying ‘hey, we want a rematch.’

“Make the phone call. They know how to contact us. We can make a rematch, we can discuss that. It’s extremely do-able to close out the year.”
