David Morrell Jr. (9-0, 8 KOs), the WBA Super Middleweight Champion, knocked out Olympic Bronze Medalist Yamaguchi Falcao (24-2-1, 10 KOs) in the first round to keep his belt.

“I’m thrilled,” said Morrell. “This was a huge night and a huge moment for me, so I’m very happy with the first-round knockout. I think this is the highlight of my career so far. It was a big event and he was a good opponent.”

Morrell wasted no time in finishing Falcao, who had never been stopped and had only been down once since 2018. Morrell hurt him early and then scored a knockdown with a right hook that made Falcao grab the ropes, which led referee Celestino Ruiz to count it as a knockdown.

Falcao got up, but Morrell smelled blood and landed another devastating right hook that dropped Falcao hard, prompting the referee to stop the fight 2:22 into the round.

Morrell kept calling out David “The Mexican Monster” Benavidez, the undefeated two-time super middleweight champion, for his next fight. This would be an exciting clash between two of the best and youngest fighters in the division, both unbeaten and action-packed.

“David Benavidez is next,” said Morrell. “Where is he? I want to fight Benavidez. He’s next, 100%. I don’t want any other guys at 168-pounds. Just Benavidez. I respect Benavidez and his team, but inside the ring, I don’t respect anything.”
