Haye: A scheduled date for me to beat up Fury is close

David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) says he’s close to arranging a rescheduled date for him and unbeaten Tyson Fury (21-0. 15 KO’s) to fight. Haye was cut above his left eye in sparring this past week making it necessary for him to postpone his scheduled September 28th fight against the 6’9” Fury.

Contrary to what we hurt initially after the news broke about Haye’s injury, Fury does want to face Haye. Why wouldn’t he? It’s not as if Fury is going to get 5 million pounds fighting anyone else. Fury wouldn’t likely make that kind of money even against one of the Klitschko brothers, and if he fights someone good, he might lose.

We just saw Fury dodge a bullet against former cruiserweight Steve Cunningham last April. Fury was dropped in the 2nd round in that fight, and the chances are very high that he would have been knocked out if Cunningham hadn’t faded so badly.

Haye said on his social media site “Things are finally now looking up as a rescheduled date for me to beat up Dyson Furry is very close to being officially made.”

According to a statement Hennessey, the promoters for Fury, they initially kicked around the idea of Fury fighting Deontay Wilder on September 28th, but they quickly abandoned that idea. It wouldn’t have been a doable fight with only 1 week to go before the fight. You would have to favor Deontay in a match-up like that because he would have the speed and power advantage over Fury, and Fury’s height advantage wouldn’t be much of a factor against the 6’7” Deontay.

For Fury, the Haye bout is probably the closest thing he’s going to get for a title shot for quite some time unless he is somehow able to beat Haye. If Fury gets blasted out like a lot of boxing fans expect him to, then he’s going to have to take a back seat in terms of his title aspirations.

The only way Fury will get a quick title shot after that is if the Klitschkos or Alexander Povetkin specifically picks him out because of his ability to sell a fight, and because of his lack of power. It won’t look good for the world champions to be fighting Fury if he gets blown out by Haye, because he’ll have been exposed already.
