George Groves v Badou Jack Moved To Mayweather Undercard?

It’s looking like WBC 168 lb mandatory George Groves may have to wait a little bit longer for his opportunity to dethrone new champion Badou Jack, with the mooted August 22nd date reportedly being moved to the Mayweather v Bero under card on September 12th.

Before the August date was announced, “Money Team” member Jack had hinted the fight would take place on Floyd’s Vegas under card, and now Showtime exec Chris DeBlastio has confirmed the broadcaster doesn’t have an event scheduled for the 22nd.

“Showtime doesn’t have a live boxing event on August 22nd. We had contemplated doing it (then) but it didn’t materialise.” he said.

Mayweather promotions have the option to include Jack’s defence on Floyd’s undercard, which would mean George Groves – knocked out twice by Carl Froch – will actually box in Las Vegas, a long held dream his bitter, newly retired rival never fulfilled.

The “Saint” took to his twitter this morning to announce he had done his 30 day check weight as requested, yet couldn’t help but echo his frustrations at the delay.

“Just done my @WBC 30 day check weigh as requested and required by them… Not long now @BadouJack #SaintGG #Train2win.”

“Patience isn’t one of my strengths. I just can’t wait to knock @BadouJack out and get my green belt. #SaintGG #Train2win.”

Victory for Groves will set up a big money unification with new IBF champion James DeGale. The two old amatuer rivals boxed for the first time in the pro ranks in 2011, with Groves narrowly getting the nod on that occasion.
