Venice, CA (February 11, 2014) Boxing’s fastest rising superstar, Gennady “GGG” Golovkin was named the World Boxing Association’s Boxer of the Month for January 2014, the fourth time he’s received the honor.
Golovkin improved to 29-0 with 26 knockouts as he defended his WBA Middleweight World Title for the tenth time on February 1 with a dominant seventh round stoppage of durable Osumanu Adama in his return to Monte Carlo.
“I’m very grateful to the WBA for this honor and I look forward to continuing to defend my middleweight title in future bouts” said Golovkin.
Stated Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions’ “Gennady’s performances are truly the talk of the international boxing world over the last 18 months since he first fought in the United States and on HBO.”
“Not only has Gennady stopped the last sixteen challengers but he’s dominated the fights from the opening bell while providing excitement in the ring that makes every fight must-see TV,” continued Loeffler.
Golovkin was last named WBA’s Boxer of the Month when he stopped Curtis Stevens on November 2 at Madison Square Garden, a performance that garnered the year’s third highest rating for a televised boxing event.
