Fury says he’s going to do “something different” in Klitschko rematch

Earlier today, Tyson Fury was at the official press conference to announce both his July 9th rematch with Wladimir Klitschko and his cousin, Hughie Fury’s fight with Fred Kassi, set for April 30th. And as usual, the reigning heavyweight champion was not lost for words. Speaking about the upcoming rematch and on new IBF champ Anthony Joshua, Fury gave the gathered media plenty to write about.

When speaking about Joshua – who, Fury says, only became champion because he himself was “robbed” of the IBF belt A.J easily relieved Charles Martin of this past Saturday – Tyson said he would “knock Joshua out well inside one round,” and that he would “slap him around the ear like we do to our bitches.”

Fury clearly has no love for Joshua! On the fight that is actually set to take place, Fury said he is pleased the rematch with Klitschko will take place in Manchester, as he knew he would have had to have knocked Klitschko out had he gone back to Germany to fight him a second time.

“What mattered most to me was getting this [fight] in England,” Fury said today. “It’s very difficult to get an away win in the ring in Germany. Having done it once I didn’t want to tempt fate twice. I would have had to knock Wladimir out because they would never have given me the decision a second time.”

With Fury it’s often hard to know when he’s being serious and when he’s joking. This was the case when he said he plans to “go into training camp for about three weeks and just do a lot of weight-lifting.” The reason? Fury says he wants to stand and trade punches with Klitschko, to see who can win such a battle.

“That’s because I’m going to do something different,” he said. “I’m not going to dance this time. I’m going to stand there and trade punches with Wlad and let’s see who wins in a fight like that. It will be much more exciting.”

As fans know, the first fight between the two heavyweights, which took place last November, was anything but exciting. Fury got the huge win, so that’s all that mattered to him. But now, with some fans saying they will stay away from the return fight for fear of another dull encounter, maybe Fury has a real desire to put on a thrilling fight this time. Or was he simply talking, and talking, and talking? Will Fury really take a risk and stand there and slug with “Dr. Steel Hammer?” Will Klitschko oblige him if he does so?

Another big crowd is expected to be on hand, this time in Manchester. Can Fury repeat his win and solidify his status as the best big man on the planet? Tyson himself appears to have no doubts whatsoever.
