Carl Froch: Let the gloves do the talking

The past few months have been exceptionally exciting for fight fans across the globe. Match ups such as, Rios v Alvardo, Floyd v Guerrero, Donaire v Rigondeaux have once again given the die- hards an opportunity to grab ‘a cold one’ and cancel all their weekend night time engagements. Super fights are now being made more often which in turn has woken up the sport that many critics claimed was dying a slow death.

This weekend will be no exception as IBF Super-Middleweight Champion Carl Froch takes on Denmarks WBA Champion Mikkel Kessler. This will be the second time the pair meet, and Froch is eager for revenge after losing a close affair on points back in 2010.

The build-up to the battle has been great with both boxers acting professionally and avoiding any ‘trash talking’. If anything both boxers are promising a war which will indeed be a fan pleaser. However, the only controversy that has arisen are the recent comments made by Froch towards fellow rivals Nathan Cleverly and George Groves.

Both fighters were labelled ‘Anti British’ by Froch after he learned that his fellow Brits had been sparring with the Great Dane in preparation for the showdown.

The accusations made by the ‘Cobra’ questioning both Cleverly’s and Groves patriotic loyalties seem ridiculous given the fact that both, ‘St’ George Groves and Nathan Cleverly wear their shorts with pride. Both boxers have shown plenty of heart in the past and work tirelessly to put British Boxing on the map. Indeed, promoting the UK fight game is what every fan wants but pointing fingers and calling fellow pro’s ‘Anti-British’ is another page from an entirely different book.

And I am sure that come fight night, fans will not be concerned about the nationality of the boxers, all they will want to see, is another toe to toe classic to add to there ever growing 2013 collection.
