Make no mistake about it, 39 year old American fringe middleweight Tony Jeter, is being brought in as cannon-fodder when he fights Chris Eubank Jr on Saturday night in Sheffield, but claims that the young contender’s handlers at Matchroom have made a big mistake in overlooking him.

Jeter comes in sporting a modest (20-4-1, 14ko) record that includes a good deal of limited opposition [his last two opponents have 30 losses between them], yet says he has been in a similar position to this fight before; in 2012 when he was brought in as the ‘opponent’ for countryman Jimmy Lange (then 38-4-2); who, like Eubank, had already announced his next fight.

“I was 14-3-1 at the time. They bought me as a ‘win’ to move him a little bit closer” Jeter recalled to iFLtv. “During the intermission they announced [Lange’s] next fight – ‘He’s in the main event, come see him’, then of course I go out there in the main event and beat the dogs*** out of him.

“I mean he was tough, but it was a good fight, I won almost every round and this is just another example of that; never overlook. In boxing just one punch can change it, the best fighters can lose on any given day. It’s a sport where even somebody with a little bit of skills can beat the other guy.”

Eubank will be making both his Mathroom promotional and Sky Sports TV debut against Jeter, and is hoping to impress before December’s big fight with bitter Irish rival, ‘Spike’ O’Sulivan, a situation that Jeter says is all too familiar too him.

“I’m here to win, I’m not here on vacation. I am here to do a job,” he added. “They’ve already announced his next fight, but it’s just so Déjà vu, I feel like I’ve been here before.

“I know Eubank’s tough and talented, but I’m tough too and I’m talented,” Jeter said before promising the upset. “He needs to be worried about me on Saturday.”
