New Matchroom Sport signing Chris Eubank Jr (19-1, 14ko) has stated that the lightly regarded Interim WBA middleweight title he won back in February is merely just the beginning of what he is envisioning as a rich, world championship winning career.

Eubank will make his debut under the Matchroom banner on the October 24th Kell Brook/Diego Chaves card in Sheffield against a TBA opponent that promoter Eddie Hearn claims will be “top 15.”

Before that (middleweight) opponent is even confirmed, Eubank has already begun linking himself to the top names, including a fight with IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale, speculating that he can move up in weight and then back down for such a fight, despite WBA governing body rules clearly stating that a champion cannot hold one belt in more than one weight class simultaneously – Article 4(.1).

“Anybody with a world title in the middleweight division – and the super middleweight division,” he said to fighthype.com regarding who he would like to fight in the near future. “I’m told now that it’s possible for me to move up and then move back down if I wanted to and I’m trying to rack up as many belts as possible,” he added, expressing slightly facetiously that “Chunky” should train hard for a future fight between them!

The Eubank team have not been shy in linking themselves to a future fight with Kazakh destroyer Gennady Golovkin –something Jr confirms, emphasising that despite all the talk of moving up, he sees himself as a natural 160lb fighter.

“[GGG?] Bring him on. People see him as the best fighter in the middleweight division, and me, the type of fighter I am, I wanna fight the best,” he said. “I wanna prove that I can mix it with these guys. Anybody in the middleweight division that has a belt, I want to fight. There’s no reason why in two years I can’t have all the belts.”

WBA (reg) titlist Daniel Jacobs holds the rung above Eubank on the WBA title ladder, with Golovkin top of the tree as Super champ. IBF boss David Lemieux,[fighting GGG next month] Andy Lee [WBO] and Miguel Cotto [WBC] complete the divisional title picture.
