Deontay Wilder: Price was too cautious; he needs a conditioning coach

Unbeaten heavyweight talent Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) think David Price (15-2, 13 KO’s) needs work on his conditioning so that he won’t run out of gas in the future like he did last Saturday night in his 5th round TKO loss to Tony Thompson (38-3, 26 KO’s). Wilder also thinks Price needs to be a little less cautious when he fights.

Deontay Wilder said on his twitter “I think Thompson came in shape and prepared but David was too cautious and he needs to find a great conditioning coach.”

It might be better for Price to be cautious but aggressive at the same time. He obviously can’t keep fighting like he did last Saturday night if he wants to go somewhere in the sport, so he’s going to have to mix his aggressive fighting approach with some caution.

Price can’t fight like Deontay or Lennox Lewis because he doesn’t have the same type of skills. Price has a good right hand, but it’s not like Deontay’s right hand or Lewis’ when he was fighting.

A conditioning coach is a must for Price, but even with the best conditioning coach, Price is still going to have problems if he punches himself out the way he did last Saturday. Even smaller fighters would struggle if they unloaded everything they had in the tank like Price did. That was a really amateurish performance from Price.

Price blames it on him wanting to try and finish Thompson off in the 2nd round after knocking him down. However, that doesn’t explain why Price went all out in the 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds in throwing tons of punches.

Price should have slowed his workrate down after the 2nd round when Thompson got back up and showed that he wasn’t hurt. It just looked like Price got over excited when he put Thompson down and tried too hard to finish him off without thinking about conserving his strength.
