Former world heavyweight champion, David Haye has revealed he is set to return to the ring in 2016 under Carl Frampton trainer Shane McGuigan, son of legendary former Irish world champion, Barry.

Haye, who also held WBO/WBA/WBC cruiserweight titles over a 10 year pro career, and hasn’t boxed in over three years since knocking out bitter rival, Dereck Chisora in July 2012, released a short promo video via The LAD Bible, accompanied by the twitter hashtag #HayeMakerIsBack.

“It’s just deeply instilled in me to be the best,” he said, advertising his planned return. “Train the hardest, push the hardest, punch the hardest, get hit the least and win as many titles as possible.

“Of all the British & world fighters that stood out to me was Carl Frampton. Carl’s speed, timing, accuracy and punch selection was something I didn’t have in my arsenal and the guy behind that was Shane McGuigan, so that’s who I sought out [for the comeback],” Haye added.

McGuigan, who is largely based in London and also trains Irish middleweight prospect, Conrad Cummings, was complementary towards his new charge, who is claiming he wishes to get back into the mix at elite level as soon as possible.

“David is a natural athlete, punches extremely hard, good balance and timing. It’s pretty easy to work with someone as talented as that,” the young trainer said.
