David Haye “gutted” at having to postpone Tyson Fury fight due to cut eye

If fans didn’t know already, September 28th’s all-British clash between Tyson Fury and David Haye has been postponed due to Haye suffering a cut above his left eye during training.

Haye suffered the injury on Friday evening and will require six stitches. According to reports, the stitches will remain in place for five to seven days and Haye is waiting on further medical advice when it comes to when he will be able to return to action.

Haye, who pulled out of his summer fight with Manuel Charr due to a hand injury, has now seen two fights in succession fall apart. In a statement, the former WBA heavyweight champ said he is “beyond gutted.”

“Gutted isn’t even the word,” Haye said today. “Mentally, I’m on the floor at the moment. I’m devastated most of all for my loyal fans, my family and my team, as well as Tyson Fury and his team. I know cuts and injuries are part and parcel of our sport, but this doesn’t change the feeling of disappointment and sadness I’m experiencing right now.

“To everyone who has bought tickets, booked hotels, and followed this fight since it was announced, there is absolutely nothing I can do expect apologize from the very bottom of my heart.”

The fight, just a week away, has shifted all it’s tickets in just three hours and big business was expected from fans buying the fight on Sky Box Office.

There is no word yet on whether the entire card will be postponed, or whether Fury might face a late replacement foe instead.
