It’s been confirmed after weeks of expectation that WBA (reg) middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs will square off against fellow New Yorker, Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin on December 5th at the city’s Barclays Center.

Both fighters are well acquainted with each other being Brooklyn natives in the same division, and their long-time friendly association will go out of the window for one-night only in front of their hometown fans in a fight for Brooklyn bragging rights.

“There is no doubt this is going to be one of the biggest fights Brooklyn has ever seen,” Jacobs said following Wednesday’s official announcement. “Peter and I go back a long time but this is business. I’m the champion, and he’s the challenger. I’m going to do everything I can to win on Dec. 5 and show the world that I’m the best Brooklyn has to offer.”

Following Quillin’s dominant whitewash of heavily overmatched unknown, Michael Zerafa last month, the green light was given for the elusive Al Haymon – who ‘advises’ both men – to put the fight together, with Showtime set to broadcast in the US.

Prior to the Zerafa mismatch, Quillin held WBO champion Andy Lee to a hard fought draw back in April and says he is relishing the chance to get back into the mix at world level, being a former WBO 160 lb champion himself, before vacating rather than fight dangerous Russian, Matty Korobov, whom Lee beat for the WBO title in December 2013.

“The fans have waited a long time for this fight, and now it’s finally here,” Quillin said. “I was back in the gym on Monday after my fight against Zerafa preparing for Dec. 5. I know there is so much at stake for me — a belt and Brooklyn bragging rights. It’s going to be a night to remember for me and for all of Brooklyn.”

Lou Di Bella, who officially promotes the card, said;

“This is a can’t-miss, pick ’em fight between two of the best middleweights in the world. This is truly the battle of Brooklyn, with both Danny and Peter possessing the power to create fireworks in an explosive night. Showtime will truly be ending 2015 with a bang, or many of them.”
