Curtis Stevens thinks Adonis Stevenson ducked Kovalev fight

Middleweight contender Curtis Stevens thinks that WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson ducked the fight against WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev with his move to Showtime this past week.

When asked if Stevenson took the easy way out of what could have been a very tough fight against Kovalev, Stevens said to thaboxingvoice “Yeah, the little [expletive]. Now who’s he [Stevenson] fighting? Bunch of queens…He don’t want it. Kovalev’s dangerous, boy. He hits hard.”

Stevens went onto say that Andrzej Fonfara, Bernard Hopkins and Sakio Bika aren’t in the same class as Kovalev is.

Stevenson’s move over to Showtime is a good one for himself and for his manager Al Haymon, because there’s no one of there that can potentially beat him. Showtime is willing to televise his mismatch against the easy to hit Fonfara on May 24th. After Stevenson destroys Fonfara, he’ll face the winner of the Hopkins vs. Beibut Shumenov fight.

That’ll be another mismatch for Stevenson. After that, there will nobody else for Stevenson to fight for a long, long time. The only way that there will be anyone for Stevenson to fight is if Showtime can get a super middleweight to move up and fight him, and there’s no one interesting that will be willing to come up and take that fight.

Carl Froch is near the end of his career, and he probably won’t do it. Guys like George Groves and James DeGale aren’t well known enough for a fight against Stevenson to be worth much in terms of ratings.

Stevenson has good power, but his chin is clearly his weak spot as we saw in his knockout loss to Darnell Boone in the past. Stevenson was able to avenge the loss to Boone, but he still took some big shots in that fight. Kovalev destroyed Boone in 2 rounds without getting hit with anything of note.
