In a predictable outcome, WBA “regular” super middleweight title holder Fedor Chudinov (14-0, 10 KOs) had little problems in beating an over-matched #4 WBA challenger Frank Buglioni (17-2-1, 13 KOs) by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision tonight at the Wemblay Arena in London, UK.
Buglioni showed a great deal of heart in fighting hard despite taking a ton of punishment in the fight. Chudinov had Buglioni hurt a number of times in the last six rounds of the fight, but Buglioni fought back well each time to avoid getting knocked out.
The judges scored the fight 120-106, 118-108, and 117-109.
Buglioni lost two points in the 6th round when he tagged Chudinov with a right hand after the bell that put the Russian fighter on the canvas. Buglioni had rallied in the last seconds of the round with a storm of punches that had Chudinov hurt. I guess Buglioni didn’t hear the bell sound while throwing his flurry of shots.
The referee Terry O’Connor took two points away from Buglioni for the punch after the bell. It didn’t really affect the outcome of the fight because Buglioni was going to lose anyway, but he did show that he could hurt Chudinov when he was throwing combinations.
At the start of the 7th round, Buglioni went after Chudinov and was able to land some really nice punches. However, Chudinov was able to get Buglioni to back off after hitting him with a left hand to the midsection that caused him to retreat. Chudinov then battered Buglioni for the remainder of the round with short uppercuts to the head and occasional body shots.
Chudinov had his way with Buglioni for most of the 8th round until the last 10 seconds. Buglioni then came alive again to land some huge shots to the head of Chudinov that stopped his offense. Unfortunately for Buglioni, the round ended before he could add any additional punches. But it was a good showing for Buglioni in that round.
In the 9th round, Chudinov hurt Buglioni with a series of body shots that had him bending forward in pain and running from him. Chudinov continued to hammer Buglioni with body shots for the remainder of the round.
Buglioni has very little left in the 10th round. The body shots in the previous round had weakened him, and he was basically just a punching bag for Chudinov. It was no longer competitive from this round on, as Buglioni just looked gassed and beaten. He was able to make it out of the fight without getting dropped, but he did not look good.

After the fight, Chudinov said “He has a good punch. I learned from my brother’s loss [to Chris Eubank Jr]. I think my next fight will be Felix Sturm. He wants to fight me. I think he [Buglioni] grew with me. I think the next fight will be harder.”
In the undercard, 31-year-old former world title challenger Dereck Chisora (22-5, 14 KOs) won a 10 round unanimous decision over the tough but limited journeyman Marcleo Nascimento (18-11, 16 KOs). The referee scored the fight 99-91 for Chisora. There was a big difference in class between the two fighters.
Nascimento, 34, had the size advantage over the 6’1” Chisora, but he was too sloppy and wild to land many of his wild windmill shots against the British fighter. Chisora could have probably knocked Nascimento out had he been in better shape. Fighting in the 260s, Chisora was carrying too much weight and it seemed to hurt his hand speed, work rate, and his ability to maneuver around the ring. Chisora has come into fights overweight in the past, and he’s never looked good in those fights. He was beaten the first time by Tyson Fury weighing 261, and he weighed 260 for the Nascimento fight.
Occasionally, Nascimento was able to land one of his wild right hands to the head of Nascimento, but his form was so bad that the shots didn’t bother Chisora.
Chisora still can fight well, but he needs to make sure he comes into his fight in top condition.
Chisora is interested in facing EBU heavyweight champion Erkan Teper. For Chisora to beat the likes of Teper, he’s going to need to fight a lot better than he did tonight. Teper would have beaten Chisora tonight with the way he fought.
