By Daniel Mole – Chris Truman is ready to cause a shock on tomorrow night when he faces Ashley Theopane on the undercard of Ricky Hatton’s comeback fight in Manchester.
Truman, by his own admission, is still a relative unknown with a record of 8-3-1 whereas Theopane is a former British light-welterweight Champion, IBO International Champion and IBF World number 4.
However the Brummie scrapper is ready to cause an upset on what he describes as the biggest night of his boxing life.
“I’m ready to surprise him and cause a bit of a shock,” he told uko-boxing.com. I think the atmosphere of a sell-out crowd, and knowing the bill is live all around the world, will spur me on. I thrive on the big occasion and I think it’ll make me up my game.
“He’s a good fighter with a decent pedigree but he can be a slow starter. He likes to back off and counter with shots. I want to get in his face.
“I’m looking at having a high work-rate and want to get at him from the start. This is my time to shine. It’s the biggest night of my boxing life and I’m feeling confident.”
Theopane vs. Truman is one of a number of action-packed bouts on the Hatton undercard ahead of the main event, which sees ‘The Hitman’ return to the ring to face Vyacheslav Senchenko at the Manchester Arena tomorrow evening (Saturday, 24th November).
