Chris Eubank Jr Gets Tony Jeter for Matchroom Debut on Brook/Chaves Card

Chris Eubank Jr (19-1, 14ko) will face 39 year old American, Tony Jeter (20-4-1, 14ko) on his debut under the Matchroom Sport promotional banner, serving as the chief support to October 24th’s Kell Brook/Diego Chaves welterweight title fight in Sheffield, that as it stands, is still a PPV event.

WBA (interim) titlist Eubank, was unveiled by Eddie Hearn’s promotional outfit a week ago and fans were promised a top 15 opponent, which the largely unheralded Jeter technically is, at WBA #13.

The American has boxed just the once this year, against the (12-18) Jeremy Marts back in March and before that against the (16-12-1) James Wyka, 15 months ago. His sole step up in class, against Danish contender Patrick Nielsen, resulted in a 2nd round stoppage in February 2014, when Jeter appeared to quit after going down under a flurry of punches and refusing to meet the count.

The fight should present as nothing but routine business for Eubank, who now has the added benefit of renowned tactician Adam Booth in the corner, who has joined the team in a ‘coaching’ capacity to assist veteran trainer, Ronnie Davies.

Eubank’s sole blemish remains his November 2014 loss to bitter rival Billy Joe Saunders, a rematch of which looks further away than ever now Eubank has joined Matchroom, especially given Saunders is with rival handlers Queensbury and pursuing the WBO route, to which he is mandatory challenger, facing Andy Lee on a new date to be announced Monday.

There has been talk from the Eubank camp of him wishing to fight the likes of James DeGale at 168 as well as WBA (sup) champion Gennady Golovkin some time in the future, although first Jr has a slot on the December 12th Anthony Joshua/Dillian Whyte bill from London, for which a fan favourite opponent is Ireland’s Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan.
