Lucas Browne hasn’t had much luck getting fights while he waits out his mandatory status to WBA (reg) heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev, (who must first fight Fres Oquendo) moving on to his THIRD opponent for his fight this Friday in Melbourne, Australia.
Browne will face 7ft 1″ American journeyman fighter Julius Long, with the aptly named 38 year old bringing a (16-18, 14ko) slate into the ring with him.
Browne had been due to face Gonzale Basile, who after dropping out for unspecified reasons, was replaced by MMA fighter Icho Larenas, (15-3) who then also pulled out late last week citing”legal issues.”
After a desperate scrabble from Hatton Promotions, who look after Browne, Long stepped in at a weeks notice to save the Australian contender’s slot on the card.
“It’s part of boxing,” “Big Daddy” said via his promoters. “I’m used to it. I just worry about my performance and I’m happy my team has again secured an opponent. I can’t wait to put on a show. Much respect to Julius for taking the fight at such short notice. That’s the sign of a warrior. He’s a big man so it’ll be like I’m preparing for (WBC champ Deontay) Wilder or (Tyson) Fury.”
