Brook v Rios Possible For August 29th?

Following his sizzling demolition of Frankie Gavin at the weekend, it would appear that Kell Brook is ready to get straight back at it and into the gym, with promoter Eddie Hearn wanting to continue the Sheffield fighter’s fantastic momentum since returning from an horrific stabbing last year – hoping to have him out again, in his home city, on August 29th.

It would be the third outing for Brook this year – and with Amir Khan seemingly unwilling to fight the IBF champion, it means Hearn and Matchroom are looking at other options. Notably it seems, Brandon Rios, whose trainer Robert Garcia was recently vocal in his assertions that Brandon had been available all along for Saturday’s date in place of Frankie Gavin.

At the post fight presser on Saturday, Hearn said;

“Rios is still our preferred choice. I think it’s the perfect fight – style wise, name wise, entertainment wise. Top Rank and Bob Arum seem to want the fight – and I had a bit of banter with Robert Garcia yesterday.”

“Of course we’d like the Amir Khan fight – but you lose the passion talking about that fight. I can’t even be bothered to hype the fight anymore because it seems so far away – I spoke to one of his team (just) two days ago.”

Brook himself said to the media that he wants the big names,

“There’s Pacquiao, there’s Mayweather. I’m unbeaten and ready to take on the world.”

“I’ve got momentum now. With a big fight they’ll (the fans) know. I’m unbeaten, a world champion and I’m becoming the star that I want to be.”
