Bob Arum on Mayweather Jr. vs. Pacquiao: “All signs seem to point to the fight happening early next year”

While the majority of the boxing community has never accepted the idea that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will ever face Manny Pacquiao, some people held on to their belief and their undying hope. I happen to be one of those people, but not because of hope, instead I am convinced that money has a hold on everyone, including both Mayweather Jr. and Pacquiao.

Like it or not, but this fight is already in the bank, and always has been if you ask me. This is a guaranteed paycheck, no matter when they decide to cash it. Be it tomorrow, or in 5 years, the fight would sell out the same.

Luckily, the boxing fans might not have to wait that long. In a recent interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, Bob Arum displayed a strong hint of hope: “Both networks want this fight to happen. All signs seem to point to the fight happening early next year,” stated Arum.

Along with the rest of the world, I would kill to find out what those signs are. Whatever they may be, I would assume they are of monetary nature, I hope they can deliver this fight.

Manny Pacquiao was also strongly interested in this subject, saying: “Of course, I want this fight. People have always been bothering me, ‘When is this fight going to happen?’… ‘When is this fight going to happen?’ I am ready to fight Floyd anytime.”

Earlier this year, Pacquiao has suggested that he will be retiring in the year 2016 to focus on his political career. If that is truly the case, making this fight happen early next year is the only good option. Assuming there is a rematch clause, which I presume is a must, they might need the entire 2015 and possibly part of 2016 to finish their saga.
