Bermane Stiverne Returns in November

Former WBC heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne (24-2-1, 21ko) is finally set to return to the ring, squaring off against American journeyman Derric Rossy (30-10, 14ko) on November 14 in Las Vegas.

The fight will act as the chief support to WBC featherweight champion Gary Russell Jr’s title defence against Oscar Escandon, and is the first outing for the Haitian-Canadian since dropping his WBC trinket back in January to current holder, Deontay Wilder.

The now 36 year old Stiverne is keen to get back into the title mix after the loss to the maligned “Bronze Bomber”, a fight in which he claimed afterwards to be suffering the effects of severe dehydration, and has gone on record since that time to state that he would jump at the chance of a rematch.

For his part, Wilder has refused that option, despite the wide margins of the first victory, instead fighting unheralded American, Eric Molina and little known Frenchman, Johann Duhaupas instead.

While he may not have bags of time left in terms of getting back into title contention, Stiverne should have no trouble with the 35 year old Rossy – on paper at least – who has lost each time he has stepped up in class, and whom Brits may remember from being stopped by Audley Harrison in the Prizefighter International Heavyweights tournament in February 2013.

Rossy last boxed in August, losing a 10 round decision to American prospect Trevor Bryan.
