By Michael Collins: In a back and forth war, British light heavyweight champion Tony Bellew (18-1, 12 KO’s) was able to wear down 31-year-old Edison Miranda (35-8, 30 KO’s) and stop him in the 9th round on Saturday night at the Alexandra Palace in London. Bellew, 29, put Miranda down on the canvas in the 9th round and Miranda opted to quit after he got back up.
Bellew hurt Miranda in the 9th with a nice left-right combination to the head. Bellew continued to pummel the badly hurt Miranda with huge power shots until Miranda hit the deck on one knee. He got back up at the count of six. However, the fight was then halted by the referee at 2:54 of the round.
