Ariza: “We’re [Mayweather’s] fighting May 2nd but it’s not going to be Manny Pacquiao”

Despite being involved in numerous arguments with camp Pacquiao, more specifically Freddie Roach, that drama doesn’t take away from the fact that Alex Ariza was close with camp Pacquiao, and likely at the time involved in most of their decisions.

Now Ariza is on the opposite team, working for Floyd Mayweather Jr., helping the undefeated superstar with strength and conditioning preparation. There is little doubt that Ariza has some knowledge about the ongoing negotiations between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

In a recent interview with .abs-cbnnews.com, Ariza said something that just might cause a big wave of displeased fan outbursts: “It’s not going to happen. We’re fighting May 2nd but it’s not going to be Manny Pacquiao. Hopefully eventually Bob Arum will blow away in the wind or whatever. As soon as we get rid of him, we can get it on.”

On one hand Ariza might simply not know everything, trying to cause a stir and get more press coverage. On the other hand, with Miguel Cotto now being available for a rematch against Mayweather Jr., you never know what team Mayweather is going to do.

Ariza might have accidentally spilled the beans, hinting towards a Cotto bout. According to Pacquiao, he will not wait any longer than until the end of this month to hear from Mayweather Jr., otherwise moving on in search of another opponent.
