Arce: I’m going to KO Donaire like the way Marquez did Pacquiao

By Ed Patrick: Jorge Arce (61-6-2, 46 KO’s) is predicting a knockout win on Saturday night in his fight against WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (30-1, 19 KO’s) at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. Arce, 5’4”, is a huge underdog in this fight and few boxing fans believe him capable of beating the faster, stronger, taller and younger Donaire. If Arce is going to win it’s going to be a huge upset because he doesn’t look capable of pulling it off.

Arce said to chron.com “What happened with Pacquiao and Marquez is going to happen again, but I’m not going to pressure myself into doing anything.”

Gee, there’s no pressure at all for Arce. He’s saying he’s going to knock Donaire completely out, like Marquez did Pacquiao last Saturday, but then saying that there won’t be any pressure. There’s going to be pressure, a lot of for Arce if he actually believes he’s going to win by a brutal knockout against Donaire.

The more likely scenario is that Donaire knocks Arce out cold and probably early. Arce’s aggressive style will make it very easy for Donaire to land his power shots because he won’t have to go looking for him like he’d had to do with some of his recent opponents. Arce will plod right into Donaire’s big shots. Arce has always been really easy to hit and he’s going to have problems if he doesn’t fix his leaky defense by Saturday night against Donaire.

Arce hasn’t lost a fight in three years, and he’s beaten guys like this during that time: Mauricio Martinez, Lorenzo Parra, Angky Angkotta, Simphiwe Nongqayi, and Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. The last guy that Arce lost to was Nongqayi in 2009. However, Arce was able to avenge that defeat by stopping Nongqayi in the 4th round of their rematch last year in September.
