Anthony Joshua Will Dominate Says Klitschko

It would seem that the world and his wife has an opinion on British knockout artist and heavyweight prospect Anthony Joshua and just what his next move should be – with the Watford fighter seemingly re-igniting interest in the marquee division both at home and beyond – with the natural gifts of the 6ft 6″ Olympic gold medalist drawing attention from all corners of the fight game.

Possibly the highest praise for Matchroom Sport’s future “face” of boxing has come from dominant, lineal heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, who appears to be tipping the Brit, above all others, to fill the gaping void he is soon to leave behind when he inevitably retires.

Joshua, who has spent time sparring Klitschko in the past, has previously been extremely complimentary of the Ukrainian champion – and in an interview with Sky Sports ‘Ringside’ programme – the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO champion seemingly returns the favour.

He said;

“I can talk about Anthony Joshua a lot. I can say a lot of good things about him and I like the way the guy is developing so well.”

“I would say – probably in a short time – (that) I am so confident he will become the dominant force in the heavyweight division. I would put any money on Joshua winning any fight that comes up. That means a lot!”

Clearly impressed by AJ’s comprehensive destruction of Kevin Johnson – who survived Wladimir’s brother Vitali and lasted the full 12 back in 2009 – Klitschko said;

“I was expecting Anthony to win that fight but I never thought he was going to win that comprehensively!”

Joshua boxes again on July 18th in Manchester against a TBA and then is out again on September 12th in London, where it is possible he will face domestic rival and amateur conqueror Dillian ‘The Villian’ Whyte in a battle of big punching prospects.

Johnson aside – on paper it will arguably be the toughest fight of Joshua’s career thus far and certainly a potential banana skin – even if the consensus appears to be that he will triumph in some style.

A lot has happened since their scrappy bout back in 2009. Joshua is on the fast track to stardom and Whyte – self represented and without a promoter at the moment – has continued to box his own way and on his own terms.

An evenly matched, ‘live’ opponent is just what the fans have been calling for regarding AJ – and his handlers have got a balancing act on their hands in terms of matching him correctly and proportionately.

Returning from injury, Whyte hopes to make an announcement of his own regarding his promotional future – irrespective of whether the Joshua fight gets signed or not.
