Angulo getting Canelo at the right moment

Alfredo Angulo (22-3, 18 KO’s) is getting the 23-year-old Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KO’s) at exact the fight point in time to pull out an upset on March 8th when the two fighters go at it on Showtime pay-per-view at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Canelo was badly schooled in his last fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. last September in losing a 12 round decision, and Canelo looked like he didn’t have a clue in how to go about fighting Mayweather.

Canelo had talked for weeks leading up to the fight that he had the perfect game plan to beat Mayweather, and enough fans took the red-haired Canelo for his word to purchase the fight on PPV. But instead of having a game plan, Canelo tried to box Mayweather for most of the fight, and he ended up looking silly. By the time Canelo changed his tactics in the 9th round, he was too far behind to win and he ended up getting clowned.

The loss for Canelo could still be weighing on him despite his comments about how he supposedly learned from the fight. If Canelo learned from the fight he’d be taking on a better opponent than Angulo, don’t you think? There’s obviously some confidence issues for Canelo.

“It just wasn’t my night and things didn’t go as we planned or expected,” Canelo said via RingTV. “But that’s in the past. I’ve learned from it, and it’s time to move on.”

It seems like Canelo isn’t ready to take responsibility for his loss to Mayweather. “It just wasn’t my night.” If Canelo can’t face the facts that he doesn’t have the skills to beat Mayweather on any night, then I can see him losing to Angulo and other fighters once he starts facing good opposition. He can’t make a career out of dragging welterweights up to the junior middleweight division for him to fight.

Canelo went onto say that he’s going to use movement against Angulo to try and keep out of the way of his big shots. That’s going to be interesting to watch because Canelo is a flat-footed fighter who turns red in the face when he’s forced to move around the ring. Canelo mostly fights in straight lines. He either goes straight forward or he goes straight backwards to rest on the ropes and use upper body movement to try and elude shots. I can’t wait to see what Canelo looks like trying to move for 12 rounds. I just hope he doesn’t blow a piston and gas out after 5 of 6 rounds. The tank-like Canelo doesn’t have the type of physique that enables him to move without getting tired and needing to go to the ropes for his rest breaks.
