By Justin Jones & Paul “Paparazzi” Jones – Photos © Paul “Paparazzi” Jones — Washington, DC — Adrien “The Problem” Broner (32-2, 24 KOs) is accustomed to making headlines inside and out of the ring. Last night, he did both in a matter of hours.

More specifically, Broner “kept his promise” to the public with a controversial stoppage of Ashley Theophane in the 9th round of the Premier Boxing Champions’ (PBC) main event at the DC Armory in Washington, DC. But stopping a game Theophane wasn’t enough to send shockwaves through the packed house.

It was Broner’s direct call out of his former “Big Brother” Floyd “Money” Mayweather and demand for a fight with perennial pound-for-pound king, however, that did the trick and caused an immediate reaction from the crowd.

“You can’t say you love someone and want the best for them, but then go out of your way to do interviews and talk bad about that person,” Broner said. “At the end of the day, I’m a man and that’s disrespect where I come from. So Floyd has to come see me.”

Loosely translated, Broner wants to settle his beef with Mayweather in the ring as soon as possible.

While the fight makes sense from financial and promotional standpoints, there are a few roadblocks that stand in the way of this potential mega-fight. For starters, Broner has some pending legal matters to tend to and Mayweather has declared himself as a retired fighter.

We’ll just have to wait and see whether Broner’s public challenge is enough to lure Floyd back into the ring.
Recap of Televised Bouts

In the co-main event, Robert Easter Jr. (17-0, 14 KOs) landed a vicious right hand to the chin of Algenis Mendez (23-4-1) that sent Mendez flailing to the canvas and lead the referee to wave the bout off in the fifth round.

Young and widely-touted prospect Gervonta “Tank” Davis, who is promoted by Mayweather Promotions/The Money Team, stopped Guillermo Avilla (16-5) via TKO in the sixth round. Davis broke Avilla down with his speed, power, and accurate punching and improved his unbeaten record to 15-0 (14 KOs).

Easter Jr. and Davis look well positioned put their respective stamps on the fight game in the near future. These are two fighters who worth the price of admission.
