Adrien Broner: ‘Mayweather Teaches Me A Lot’

Ahead of his fight this weekend against Shawn Porter, as part of Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions, Ohio’s Adrien Broner has revealed that he has been receiving mentoring from “Big Bro” Floyd Mayweather in the gym – something he feels has been instrumental in preparing him for this Saturday’s clash.

In the eyes of many, Broner will always be “Floyd-Lite”, a poor man’s Mayweather, yet “The Problem” seems to believe that mentoring from the future Hall of Famer is key in finding himself as a fighter.

He said at the news conference, via Sky Sports;

“With Floyd Mayweather in there, he teaches me a lot. He’s teaching me – we talk all day and he comes to watch me train all the time.”

I think if Broner spent less time trying to copy his idol, and more time finding what works for him as a fighter, rather than imitating Floyd, he could really unleash the natural talent he so obviously possesses.

That – and he needs to find his correct weight class, which evidently isn’t 147 lbs.

Still seemingly refusing to talk about the 144 catch-weigh he insisted on – or the 10 lb rehydration clause he imposed on Porter, Broner said of his opponent;

“This is the first game that I’m gonna do a lot of things. It might be the first time I stop Shawn Porter.”

“I love all my opponents. They make me. If there were no opponents, there’d be no Adrien Broner – so I love them all.”

“I’m looking good and I’m feeling good. You know, one mistake with Adrien Broner and that can end the fight.”

I guess it depends who makes the mistake, Adrien?
