On Friday, February 10, boxing fans were treated to a fight of the year candidate between junior welterweights Ivan “The Beast” Baranchyk of Brooklyn, NY and Arizona’s Abel Ramos. The bout took place at the Buffalo Run Casino in the main event of ShoBox: The New Generation. It was a significant fight for both combatants, with Baranchyk looking to move further up the ladder while Ramos hoped to become a player at 140 pounds by taking out his highly regarded foe.
Undefeated super lightweight powerhouse Ivan “The Beast” Baranchyk and once-beaten Abel Ramos weighed-in on Thursday for their 10-round main event tomorrow/Friday on ShoBox: The New Generation live on SHOWTIME® (10:05 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast) from Buffalo Run Casino & Resort in Miami, Okla.
The hard-hitting Baranchyk (13-0, 10 KOs), who trains in Los Angeles and fights out of Miami, has scored 10 KOs inside of three full rounds, while the aggressive-minded Ramos (17-1-2, 12 KOs), of Casa Grande, Ariz., has knocked out three straight and promises to be the toughest test of Baranchyk’s career.
Following a successful 2016, stablemates Ivan “The Beast” Baranchyk and Ivan “The Volk” Golub were included on Dan Rafael’s ESPN list of “Top 20 Prospects of the Year”. Both Ivans finished the year winning four fights apiece to bring their records to an identical 13-0, with 10 knockouts for Baranchyk and 11 for Golub. It was a year that increased their visibility on the national stage with two appearances each on SHOWTIME’s “ShoBox: The New Generation” series.

Making his fourth straight appearance tomorrow at the Buffalo Run Casino, in Miami, OK, where he has built a strong local following, undefeated junior welterweight contender Ivan “The Beast” Baranchyk (12-0, 10 KOs) will face Wilberth Lopez (15-6, 10 KOs), of Tucson, AZ, in an eight-round bout. Australian junior lightweight contender Billel Dib (20-1, 10 KOs) will also see action on the undercard.
Born in Russia, raised in Belarus and now living and training in Brooklyn, NY, the 23-year-old Baranchyk is coming off an impressive 10-round unanimous decision victory over Chinese amateur standout Wang Zhimin (7-0) that was televised by SHOWTIME’s “ShoBox: The New Generation” series on September 23. Extended the 10-round distance for the first time, Baranchyk, known as a knockout artist, proved he had the stamina and technical ability to expertly outbox his foe en route to winning with scores of 100-90 twice, and 99-91. With the victory, Baranchyk, co-promoted by DiBella Entertainment, Fight Promotions Inc., and Holden Productions’ Four State Franchise, seized the USBA junior welterweight title. It was his third fight on ShoBox, with the other two bouts lasting a combined two minutes and 49 seconds, having scored highlight reel first-round knockouts over Shadi Shawareb (9-0-2) last December and Nicholas Givhan (16-0-1) in March. It was against Givhan that Baranchyk picked up the WBC USNBC 140lb. belt.

Headlining in a ten round contest, Baranchyk’s fighting his fourth consecutive bout at the Buffalo Run, where he is an adopted fan favorite. Raised in Russia and fighting out of Brooklyn, NY, Baranchyk is 12-0 with 10 wins by knockout. In his most recent bout, Baranchyk clearly outpointed crafty Zhimin Wang on ShoBox over ten rounds to capture both the USBA and WBC USNBC championships.
