Lopez, Ocampo & Mdluli Triumphant In WBF Title Fights

With a lot on the line for everyone, promoter Abel Gomez Cano served a treat for local boxing fans on Friday August 29 at the Gimnasio Oscar ‘Tigre’ García in Ensenada, Mexico, putting on a pair of World Boxing Federation (WBF) championship fights, featuring two of the city’s best boxers.

Two undefeated prospects against two seasoned veterans. One prospect came unstuck, while the other took his career to the next level. One veteran resurrected his career, and one was pushed back in the queue. It was a night of mixed fortunes, but a great night for professional boxing in Ensenada.

Q & A: WBF Latin Champion Isaac Rodrigues

World Boxing Federation (WBF) Latin Super Middleweight Champion Isaac Rodrigues had a flying start to his professional career, winning his first seventeen bouts, including a victory over well-known contender Brian Vera.

He captured a regional title in his home country of Brazil in 2008, and made one successful defense before relocating to the USA, where he won his first four fights before his career took a bad turn with consecutive stoppage defeats that left his hopes in shambles.

Q & A: WBF North American Champion China Smith

On June 13 of this year, Southpaw Heavyweight banger China “The Dragon” Smith won the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) North American title with a tough unanimous decision victory over the game Mike Sheppard.

Q & A: WBF International Champion Paul Economides

World Boxing Federation (WBF) International Super Bantamweight Champion Paul ”Spartan” Economides was born in Wales in November 1986. He started boxing at eleven, and had his first bout at twelve years of age.

As an amateur he developed into one of his countries best, and eventually represented Wales in several international tournaments before deciding to turn professional at age 21 in 2008.

Along the way he has put together a record of fourteen victories against five defeats, capturing British Masters titles in two weight-classes before winning the WBF title this past April.
