Canelo struggled with Sugar Shane, a 40 year old at the time. I doubt his a skillful fighter. Trout will have the jab on his face all night long. Canelo would never be allow to get inside, frustration will come and maybe tko, Trout will win this one.

still no response to the challenge of identifying a SINGLE non-Mexican opponent (or established PPV draw in their own right, e.g., DLH, Hatton, or Cotto) that Mayweather has elevated to PPV status on any day other than May 5 or September 16. Mayweather nEEEds Canelo’s fanbase and NOT the other way around.

Shane Mosley is NOT an A side PPV star GTFOH, Sugar Shanes REAL PPV bonanzas have ALL been against A side stars like Mayweather, Pacquiao and Oscar thats why he gave up his right leg to fight Floyd because he cannot make the SERIOUS cash against anyone else Floyd was the biggest payday of his career.

“Sugar Shane Mosley” in a GBP production on Cinco de Mayo weekend for which Shane entered as the #3 pound-for-pound fighter in the world and the #2 welterweight bolstered by the notoriety of defeating Margarito. on the undercard: Ponce, Canelo, and Jessie Vargas. that’s a powerful supporting cast obviously selected to attract the Cinco de Mayo fight crowd, i.e., Canelo’s fanbase, i.e., Chicano-Mexicano fanbase . . . Haimat, LMFAO I get MY motivation from the TRUTH. I sound SO incredibly SMART that its hard not to imagine me being a Professor at Harvard…EVERY single point in MY previous post cannot be refuted that’s why you have NO choice but to personally attack ME.

Point #1-Floyd is the bonafide Cash COW of Sports….TRUE

Point #2-The Executives at Showtime agree with ME on that….TRUE

Point #3-Canelo is a PROSPECT who aspires to BE what Mayweather IS….TRUE

Point #4-Canelo was trying to get a guarantee from Mayweather BEFORE he ever even beat a CHAMP….TRUE

Point #5-Thats not how it works….TRUE

Point #6-Canelo has beaten NO CHAMPS or Top 10 P4P Fighters…TRUE

Point #7-All credible EXPERTS rate Canelo as LESSER than Guerrero…TRUE

Canelo dropping off of the card will seriously hurt the PPV numbers just as a mosquito seriously hurts a COW…..Might suck a little blood out of it but the COW continues to live GOOD. I can’t complain. Instead of getting ONE night of GREAT Boxing I get TWO!! THANK you to Canelo!!

Posted March 9, 2013 2:00 pm

Boxtradamus, LMAO, where do you get motivation to your posts? You sound so incredibly dumb that it’s hard not to suspect that you’re actually getting paid a dollar / post by the Mayweather camp. LOL Canelo dropping out will seriously hurt the PPV numbers of that card. Any one denying that is just ignorant. Great move Canelo, who’ll make more money on his own card.

I’ll be tuning in for the Canelo Trout fight for sure. Great match up. I’ll watch a rerun of the Mayweather fight.

Posted March 8, 2013 8:17 pm

stupid loser

I believe Trout will show his win over MC was no farce and pull out a decision win. Ether way, it will be a good test and gauge for both fighters. I am looking forward to this fight.

Posted March 8, 2013 7:42 pm

Ok. If you think Canelo not being on the undercard won’t hurt Mayweather, then tell me how many ppvs do you think he will do? What is your definition of a BIG EVENT? I say no Canelo, no million ppvs. If Canelo keeps winning he will dominated the ppvs after Sept 14th. I guaranteed Mayweather will be heading south on ppv buys starting with Guerrero. He has no other name out there who brings excitement. At 23 years old Canelo is dominating Mayweather just like Tiger Woods is dominating Jack Nicklaus in comparison regarding ppvs. Where was Mayweather at 23 years old? Mayweather started ppvs at the age of 29.

I didn’t realize the Ponce De Leon vs Mares fight was also on the Floyd undercard. Thanks for reminding me. Yeah Canelo REALLY isn’t hurting Floyd at all since anyone and everyone who loves boxing and all of the Mexican fans will be watching with or without him… shame he trained so hard for nothing… honestly now I’m wondering if Canelo really just doesn’t want to fight Trout?

Posted March 8, 2013 10:04 am

MNboxingFAN – Sean

If Mayweather wasn’t already fighting another Mexican, albiet a Mexican/American, I’d say Canelo was being smart and would prove a point taking the Mexican fanbase away from Floyd for the PPV, but with Guerrero on the card you will still get much of that fanbase. However Canelo is the true star in Mexico and no matter how you slice it Floyd just lost money. To a fighter like Floyd… that’s how you make him change his mind… hurt his pocket book. Smart move Canelo. You don’t need Floyd. Fight anyone and everyone else until Floyd agrees to fight you.

Posted March 8, 2013 9:42 am

Comes to show you that IF a fighter REALLY wants to fight another fighter, his promoter will have no say in it! I am sure Golden Boy Promotions asked Canelo not to fight TROUT but Canelo still made it happen.

Posted March 8, 2013 4:37 am

At the age of 29 Mayweather was making 370,000 ppvs. At the age of 23 Canelo will do well over 600,000 IF he gets past TROUT and if he fights COTTO or MARTINEZ. Imagine if he keeps winning and is undefeated at the age of 33 (Mayweather’s age). I think Mayweather just got SPANKED by CANELO for the SEPTEMBER 14th date. There is nobody out there besides Pacquiao or Martinez that will trump CAnelo’s Fight against COTTO or MARTINEZ. Except if Canelo decides to fight ANGULO which brings nothing more than a punching bag. My prediction is that if Canelo wins his next two fights and his Sept. 14th fight is against Martinez or Cotto we will see a new PPV KING. He won’t even need Mayweather. I call them like i see them. By the way, I can’t explain how Canelo got a CHAMPIONSHIP belt. He fought someone not even ranked at that weight. Well as long as he beats top contenders and champions he will be a Superstar. I also like TRout’s attitude. I wonder, will ROACH again give $1,000 to any of Pacquiao’s sparing partner to try and knock MAnny down?

Posted March 8, 2013 4:28 am

Am I the only person who saw the canelo vs Alfonso Gomez fight? Canelo was being outboxed by the journeyman Gomez in my estimation losing every round. Alvarez hurts him and the ref jumps in and stops the fight prematurely. If Gomez can outbox Canelo I see trout shutting Canelo out. Josesito Lopez was landing clean shot on Alvarez as well if Lopez want so undersized he would of probably beat canelo. Canelo is just too stiff which makes him too easy to hit. Canelo is just not that good
Canelo is nothing more then a prospect

Posted March 8, 2013 4:09 am

YES. Floyd is the bonafide Cash COW of not only Boxing but of ALL Sports in the World! The Executives at Showtime agree with ME on that!..Canelo is just a PROSPECT who aspires to BE what Mayweather IS….He wants it SO bad that he threw a temper tantrum and jumped OFF of the biggest card of the YEAR just because he wasn’t guaranteed a Fight with the Cash COW before he even beat a legitimate CHAMP. Sorry Canelo I APPLAUD the FACT that you want to become a PPV Superstar but thats not how it works…You have to work your way UP. Go and beat a CHAMP first then more Fans will sympathize with you and clamor for the Fight. As of right now you have beaten NO CHAMPS let alone any Top 10 P4P Fighters SO Mayweather was CORRECT in telling you to GTFO. ALL respected EXPERTS rate you as LESSER than Guerrero. So you’ve got ALOT of work to DO before YOU can demand a Fight. Some AMATEURS even SAY that Guerrero doesn’t deserve the Fight so where does that leave YOU??

Posted March 8, 2013 1:23 am

One thing we have to remember is Canelo has been fighting fighters that where moving up in weight. Also Trout has fought at 160 before. I don’t think Canelo can KO Trout. He is going to have to win on points and we have yet to see Canelo in there with someone with the skill level of Trout. This fight is going 12 unless Trout KO’s Canelo. Don’t think it will happen, I pick Canelo in 12 but that is a logical scenerio

Posted March 7, 2013 11:21 pm

Negative, I am a white guy and would pay to see Canleo fight.

Posted March 7, 2013 11:13 pm

Only Mexicans pay to watch Canelo..

Posted March 7, 2013 10:10 pm

If I was Canelo I wouldnt worry about Floyd, just start beating other top guys in your division, If the Pacman fiasco has taught me anything it is that you can wipe out every other contender in you and your arch nemisis weight class but it doesnt gurantee you will get a fight with him..And anyone who pays to watch two fighters with the expectation that they will eventually meet for a superfight are setting themselves up for a loss, both financially and mentally…Thats boxing folks….

Posted March 7, 2013 9:47 pm

Alvarez is being dumb as hell. He will never get a Floyd fight after this stunt and pissing Floyd off. Dumb move

Posted March 7, 2013 9:25 pm

Mayweather would STICK Canelo during a negotiation no matter what and its NOT even sticking when you have done OVER a half a billion dollars in documented business vs a guy who has been reliant on ticket sales…Canelo would take the 5 mill or so OR he can fight for 1-2mill against everyone else… The BIGGER picture is the exposure he would get if he performed well or pulled off an upset…I like Alvarez he looks like the real deal but he and Mayweather are on two different planets… One man in an ATG, the other is a newbie..

Posted March 7, 2013 7:01 pm

Ortiz NEVER did a PPV before fighting Floyd Mayweather, I cannot recall Shane Mosley ever being on the A side of a PPV of note he was always second fiddle, ODH, Mayweather, Pacquiao and even on the undercard with Alvarez he got a 6 figure payday to take some more shots to his SHOT body….. Why are fighters like MW King Martinez willing to sell their SOULS and go on record for an 80/20 split while dropping weight that Martinez says he will NOT drop to face Canelo? Its because NO ONE brings the $$$$$$$$$ like Floyd Mayweather Jr thats why he has the MASSIVE 6 fight deal with Showtime and set off a bidding war…. These other fighters are just characters in HIS play, he is the LEAD…..Abner Mares? Ponce De Leon? those dudes could NOT do a PPV to save their lives you gotta be kidding me….AGAIN where are the figures not the fantasies??

Posted March 7, 2013 6:47 pm

Te Tumbo, as per usual you are spewing utter nonsense which is EASILY debunked if you are going to try and sell the Mayweather that fought Mitchell vs the marketing powerhouse that we know today you are just plain DUMB… What sort of MASSIVE fanbase does Victor Ortiz enjoy and why would he take 2- 3mill of a 40 mill plus pot if he brought so much to the table? Why did Shane who toiled for years in the sport let Floyd take a 22.5 mill guarantee vs his 7 million? Why did Cotto make PEANUTS compared to FMJ who took down a massive 45 million dollar payday? Why did Marquez make 4 mill plus a 600k overlimit fee when FMJ made 25mill plus??? Only 2 answers resonate, his opponents are the dumbest in the worlds history OR he is the runaway attraction and they need him to make their biggest paydays… Post ODH both Floyd and Manny became rainmakers in the sport doling out peanuts to their opponents who LACK the clout….

Posted March 7, 2013 6:38 pm

Brian Lee, that whole “he gets the big bucks because people dislike him argument” is WEAK the guy has 4 million Twitter followers I suppose they ALL follow him on Twitter because they dislike him? GTFOH reality is that people don’t pay good money fight after fight to watch a guy they hate and you can’t claim its his opponents because none of them are doing A side PPV’s independent of him with the exception of Cotto who maxed at 500k buys vs Margarito..

REDMOND, you’re once again resorting to cynical spin and your typically selective presentation of facts to bolster an otherwise absurd notion that Mayweather’s May 4th fight-card doesN’T(?!?) need Guerrero, Mares, and DeLeon to succeed. i can guarantee you that Mayweather v. Alexander v. Peterson v. Berto would NOT inspire Cinco de Mayo fight-parties in Califas. Mayweather is cleverly exploiting the most passionate fanbase in Boxing and i’m not complaining. the more fight-cards the better. moreover, i’m a bigger fight-fan of Mayweather than Canelo at the moment. otherwise, biased and delusional marketing logic like yours is what inspired HBO to provide Mayweather v. Bruselles with a bigger purse to split than for the red-hot rematch between Marquez v. Pacquiao*(?!). who the f’k watched that matchup other than hardcore fight-fans like myself? even those in attendance lost interest midway through the bout. same with Floyd v. Sharmba Mitchell and this was AFter Floyd’s impressive wins over Castillo, Chicanito, and Corralles. Face It: whether it be DLH, Hatton, or Cotto, Floyd’s PPV numbers rely on the fanbase of his opponents NOT the other way around.

Posted March 7, 2013 4:16 pm

Canelo is about to be exposed and will implode like his Drug Addict Contryman Chavez Cheato Jr.

Posted March 7, 2013 4:08 pm

Love the Canelo-Trout matchup. It’s a toss-up and may the best man win! I like Canelo’s style better, so I’m pulling for him. But a skilled boxer like Trout is just the kind of style to give him trouble. We’re going to find out if Canelo is the real deal. If he wins, maybe he’ll take on Martinez afterwards. The better Canelo looks the less likely Floyd will face him…

Posted March 7, 2013 3:57 pm

Canelo doesn’t need the 5 de Mayo date to attract his countrymen. And with finally a definite step-up fight, I would not be surprised if this fight is one of the top non PPV fights ever for Showtime.
And while Canelo definitely made the card a lot bigger, Mayweather will still get his numbers, but exactly how many will determine how the chips fall if and when these 2 start talking about fighting each other.
If May has really good numbers he’ll try to stick it to Canelo during the negotiations by reminding him he doesn’t need him to make a big fight (same as he told Pac), but if the numbers are not great, Canelo will have more power at the table and Mayweather more of a desire to fight him.

Posted March 7, 2013 3:45 pm

Maybe Canelo is the future maybe not, Floyd is in the right place at the right time and boxing is paying off big to the main attraction these days….you can’t blame a man for making the most of it, boxing careers are short and really big money is being made these days, heck man all these old timers refuse to retire just because they’re making more from being an opponent than what they made being champions or contenders

Posted March 7, 2013 3:44 pm

Showtime just gave Mayweather one of the reported richest deals in sports history because he has a SMALL fanbase? you guys crack me up, hate a guy all you want or love next one but the FACTS are irrefuttable any speculations about Canelo as a TRULY bankable PPV star are just that speculations… A GREAT fighter like JMM has STILL never been on PPV EXCEPT when he faced the two biggest draws since ODH retired Pacquiao and Mayweather beyond that JMM cannot get people to shell out $65 in serious numbers to see him in the ring with just (an opponent) I know the more radical elements (Te Tumbo) will suggest that Marquez is a PPV master even though he is payed a 1/4 of what Manny makes per fight (will change if they fight a 5th time) Everyone is entitled to their own opinions NOT their own facts…. HOLLA!

Posted March 7, 2013 3:27 pm

Chicago Guy, since you are an expert on when did Canelo last headline a PPV card and what were the numbers?? OHHHHHHHHH He never did gotcha well reality is that Saul is a possible future star and I like him but he is a tick on FMJ’s ballsack… Its more likely that Floyd made MORE facing Cotto (45million) than Alvarez will make in his entire career and thats not hyperbole very few boxers make 50 mill in purses…A couple losses and the story can change drastically…. But then again Floyd made 85 mill over the fiscal year because of Alvarez?? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Posted March 7, 2013 3:22 pm

I’m just glad I won’t have to pay for Rape-R-View to see Alvarez vs Trout

Posted March 7, 2013 3:17 pm

Chicago guy

Te tumb is just telling the truth. Alvarez is included in the card coz he got huge fanbase of his own following whenever he fight and it helps to sell this fiasco.Alvarez is suffering because he is being used in this circus.

Posted March 7, 2013 2:23 pm

OMG!! On this rare occassion…I find myself in agreement with Tumbo!!! Very well stated!!

Posted March 7, 2013 2:19 pm

Te Tumbo NOW you are just being your typical DUMB and senseless self there is really NO way to measure Canelos PPV appeal because he has NEVER done and A side solo PPV consequently you try to measure him against one of the BIGGEST sellers to ever do it… A guy who was in 3 or 4 of the biggest NON HW PPVS in history and was in the BIGGEST fight ever… Suddenly Canelo is needed? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! No one even knows if this kid has a voice, meanwhile Mayweather has 4 million followers on Twitter…. Mayweather did 78 mill with Victor Ortiz for Gods Sake, he is the HIGHEST paid athlete on planet earth but secretly Canelo is the real economic engine of boxing? Well then Canelo is a DUMMY for sitting around taking those paltry paydays while FMJ rolls in the dough…!!! Thanks for the laughs man! :)

Posted March 7, 2013 12:49 pm

Mayweather’s fanbase continues to be limited to his entourage, hardcore fight-fans, and some but not all of his immeidate family, which wouldn’t sell-out the ballroom of the Las Vegas Hilton. THAT’s why Floyd needs Canelo’s fanbase NOT the other way around.

Posted March 7, 2013 12:29 pm

Haimat, who are all these “weak small fighters” that you are discussing for Mayweather and Co? You mean Cotto who was already a 3 weight Champion, future HOFER and established at 154? Or Guerrero who is actually BIGGER than Floyd and a 4 weight Champion? We KNOW you don’t mean FMJ who has moved thru 5 divisions facing bigger men…?? Of course you don’t because that would be ridiculous and debunked by him facing guys like Oscar and Shane who banged at 154 and beyond (ODH tried MW) Floyd could be in the ring with King Kong and you would be whining about it, you used to stump for him to face Manny who is SMALLER than Guerrero and came up from 106 years ago as opposed to Guerrero who like FMJ came up from 130 and showed he was strong by going beast on Berto… Again whatever you attempt, I will crush :)

Posted March 7, 2013 12:27 pm

As I recall, Flotyd & Pac actually fought the losers of fight rather than the winner. All resect to Canelo for fighting Trout instead of a past his prime Cott. If he shout beat Trout, he will be the man at 154. Should Canelo win, it would put a lot of heat on Floyd, he wouldn’t be able to write him off like he did Pac.

Posted March 7, 2013 11:13 am

that is truly spoken about canelo hasn’t accomplished nothing but want’s everything // like that comment /if l can’t play here i will take my ball and go home

Posted March 7, 2013 11:03 am

SREDMOND, please try to restrain yourself and not post 37 different posts on this topic. It’s tiresome reading your fanboyish rantings. Same thing over and over again. This forum is about the sport of boxing and not for fan-boys like yourself posing as marketing experts. Oscar was the face of boxing, Floyd and Manny have been the biggest names in the sport since, Canelo and Broner are probably the future of the sport. Hopefully they’ll fight fights that real boxing fans actually give a fu*k about and not seek out weak, small fighters and promote the fights as if they are in some way competitive. Guys like you that buy into the hype are slowly killing the sport…

Posted March 7, 2013 10:52 am

Canelo is taking the fight that he needs in order to silence his critics, he has obvious talent and poise in the ring but the montage of fighters he has faced have all had some questions.. In fairness he sought out Williams and Kirkland which would have been strong choices but alas we know what happened there…He would NEVER be able to dictate to Mayweather thats simply not realistic and whatever his appeal it is DWARFED by the marketing muscle and established brand of FMJ….Canelo will likely get a fight with FMJ if he wins but it will be on Floyds terms and thats life when you are an upstart looking to face a legend….

Posted March 7, 2013 10:37 am

Posted March 7, 2013 9:11 am

I know that I personally am looking forward to watching 2 great undefeated fighters get it on whereas I don’t really have any interest in Floyd and his annual hand-picked sparring session, let’s see if the ppv audiences agree. Also, a six fight deal won’t mean a whole lot as long as Floyd keeps on this trajectory; Do you really think anyone will want to watch him vs. 2015’s Robert Guerrero when Canelo is the p4p #1 and he’s taking on all challengers?

Posted March 7, 2013 7:57 am

Canelo is the biggest thing in Mexico since Julio Cesar Chavez and might very well be the face of boxing in the near future. He’s got a huge following in the Latino world. I applaud him for standing up to the cherry-picking ways that is killing the sport of boxing that Floyd has been applying the last ten years.

Posted March 7, 2013 6:27 am

Marc Livitz, listen Canelo is still fighting Trout. He’ll probably make more money on his own card than on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather. The only reason, business wise and legacy wise that Canelo would even consider fighting on an undercard, is the possibility of a huge fight in the near future. “Money” has said no to that possibility and now we’ll see Floyd’s drawing without a sidekick which will be interesting.

As we all know, Floyd is always looking for the easiest path. Trout is the top dog at 154 and is one helluva tough fight. Should Canelo beat him convincingly Floyd won’t fight him. That’s the reason for this whole mess. Why blame Canelo for taking the tough fight and the wise business decision? It’s a win win situation for the fans.

Posted March 7, 2013 6:20 am

I sincerely hope him and his team knows what they are doing. Trout is no slouch. He has his hands full in April. If he underestimates Trout; this will actually be the second time he’s done so. The first time if you recall is when he and GBP just knew that Cotto was going to get pass Trout. We all know what happened there. He thought he was going to have a showdown with Cotto; but those plans went flying out the window. And based on his reactions after that fight when Trout called him out; it didn’t seem he was all that interested in fighting him. Lets see how this all plays out. I wish him well.
