Ward’s fight with Dawson has about the same importance as Mayweather’s fights with Corrales and Castillo.. Mayweather vs Pacquiao is on another level not previously visited.. This is why nailing the fight down will take some doing, and is very frustrating for everyone. I think there will be one more massive push to get the fight done.

If you compare Pac’s and FLoyd’s similar PPV opponents(Not counting DLH as those are Oscars PPV numbers), they pull virtually the same numbers, period. Floyd gets paid more becasue he promotes himself not becasue his fights generate more money.

Wrong, Pac was guarenteed $26 million. Get your facts straight. smh

Emilio, you are right, but “Pacquiao/Mayweather” anything is old, old news. I’ll wager that many boxing fans, after years of being teased about this potential matchup–but not getting it–don’t give a damn if the two prima donnas ever face each other in the ring. I don’t. Pac is on his way down hill. Mayweather is too even though we don’t see the decline in him as readily as we do in Pacquiao. Both are cherry-picking, pocket-lining manipulators–master showmen and conmen–who are more concerned about filling their coffers with cash than making the fight that should have been made more than two years ago. No, I say forget both of them, let’s move on and enjoy the new crop of current and up-and-coming champions–in all divisions. Boxing doesn’t need Pacquiao and Mayweather anymore now than it does Bernard Hopkins, Carlos Baldomir, or Ricardo Mayorga. Old news–all of them. Pacquiao will never fight Mayweather–until it’s his very last fight, their biggest guaranteed purses ever, and Pacquiao can go out smiling as a multimillionaire even if he is a loser.

What Floyd made outside of PPV is irrelevant.Whatever money they do make if they do (Pac) fight will depend on sales generated from their prior PPV. To date, Pac has two more fights than Floyd does in PPV and thus, has earned more money than Floyd from PPV with his 8 fights. Now, do I think this should give Pac an edge in negotiations in terms of purse, no, I do not. Each is a boxing super star in his own right and deserve nothing less than 50%!

BOTH MEN can END the SPECULATION and SEIZE the UPPER HAND, ABSOLUTLEY proving their CRITICS and NAYSAYERS wrong by submiting to the REQUESTS!!

It’s Me, Ernie…

I have to agree, Ward must think he is Frank Sinatra, doing his way. Hometownboy’s antics are getting played out. His time will come.

You’re all sounding like girlfriends trying to defend their man…

Grow up.

So boring

Cheese Cake

I knew it after reading this that Pactards and flomos would come and try to defend their lover…

Author is 100% right.

Both guys are to blame.

Ward should learn from Pac and try to fight abroad insted of always in Jokeland.

Posted August 30, 2012 11:07 am

That’s my take on it,but Floyd has the most devoted fans and they’re willing to back him on EVERYTHING he does. I said from the beginning that if Pac agreed to full testing Floyd would come up with another excuse. It went from Floyd saying “I gave Pac everything in the negotiations and all I wanted was the drug test” to Floyd wanting to picking the venue and date and no longer wanting a 50/50 split. I also said that his fans would deny Pac said it even if it was recorded on youtube, which they did. They’ll accuse Pac of saying things that people in his camp said, but when he says something out of his own mouth that they don’t want him to have said, they’ll have selective hearing or say that Pac is just saying it but won’t do it. It’s plain to see why the fight hasn’t happened but people often see what they want.

Floyd makes more becasue he’s his own promoter not becasue his fights make more. He offers Pac $40 million and Pac still has to pay Arum with that, because he’s under contract. Therefore Pac would make no more fighting Floyd for $40 million than he did fighting Cotto or JMM. It would be stupid for Pac to take that when this will be the biggest PPV in history. If he took it Floyd would walk with the rest which can be up to $80 million or more!

Floyd is not scared of Pac. Floyd earns more money so in my opinion then he should get a bigger piece of the pie. Yes they both make millions but should that be an excuse to lower down what you think you should be paid? And since Floyd offered Pac 40 mil why didn’t Pac take it? Is Pac scared? This is all Arums doing.

Its not to avoid the loss to Floyd. It’s about Floyd who always find an excuse to make the fight impossible to happen. You guys should ponder on Floyd’s agenda while he made those excuse from the past!!! GET IT!!! WAKE UP ALL YE FLOYDIOTS!!!

Indeed, forget about Manny because Floyd has many excuses to avoid the fight and you FLOYDIOTS should knew that already!

I think 3 was the only fight the judges got right. JMM gave away rounds when he should have stayed on MP. That’s why I think JMM is going to win the next one.

The Prince

Floyd should either retire for fight one more dangerous opponent to seal his legacy. Forget about Pacquiao, it’s not going to happen. But I do give much respect towards Dawson and Ward for being brave enough to fight each other at the high of their careers.

Posted August 29, 2012 8:58 pm

@King david.. Floyd Patterson’s career wasn’t ended by his 2 first-round KO losses to Sonny Liston—not by a long shot.. Patterson had more than 20 fights over the next 10 years.. He fought Ali twice, fought Quarry twice, fought Ellis for the title, and beat four top-10 ranked heavyweights: Bonavena, Machen, Chuvalo, and Cooper ..Patterson actually made about as much money after his 2 losses to Liston as he did before those Losses. A bad KO loss doesn’t necessarily end your career. It may get you fights you couldn’t get before because you look beatable.

Pac has fought Barrera, Morales and Marquez just to name a few and Floyd has fought Hernandez, Castillo, Chico Corrales and Hatton just to name a few. So I think they know plenty and don’t have to learn anything from Dawson or Ward

Posted August 29, 2012 5:57 pm

Mayweather-Pacquiao WILL happen… Fights that NEVER happened??? Lewis-Bowe… Holmes-Foreman… Tyson-Bowe… Dawson-Calzaghe… Hearns-McCallum… Leonard-Nunn… Nunn-Hearns… Hagler-McCallum… Froch-Calzaghe… Robinson-Burley… Robinson-Moore… Leonard-McCallum… McCallum-Nunn… Jones-Michalczewski… Tarver-Michalczewski… Wright-De La Hoya… Tyson-Witherspoon… Trinidad-Forrest… Foreman-Shavers… Frazier-Lyle… Bonavena-Quarry… Lewis-Byrd… Klitschko-Klitschko… Fury-Price… Haye-Adamek… Wilder-Mitchell… Jennings-Hank… Helenius-Dimitrenko… etc… etc… etc…

To keep record?… John f kenedy once told “floyd patterson” to give americans favour by fighting “sony liston” then patterson went on and lost 2 times by 1st round ko’s, which mostly ended his carreer,… i think both they hav that fear!

Posted August 29, 2012 4:55 pm

What about JMM vs Pac III? Though I don’t agree many seemed to feel JMM won and that was at WW.

Posted August 29, 2012 4:47 pm

Floyd is willing to sacrifice his legacy, pride and respect for his economic viability and Pac has been extremely dangerous to that over the past couple of years

Posted August 29, 2012 4:47 pm

What the author is missing is that Floyd wasnt going to fight Pac no matter what until he felt comfortable enough to do so. All of Floyds maneuvers were to stall the fight and i dont blame him.

Posted August 29, 2012 4:42 pm

Exiled Yank

MP will lose or sure to JMM this time and the FM fight will be off the table. This fight is only important if they both remain unbeaten at WW. I know Bradley got the decision, but only Bradley thinks he won, so MP FM still matters… for now.

The first thing I disagree with in this article is that Dawson AND Ward made this fight happen. Ward did absolutely nothing, and Dawson did everything. The only reasonn this fight is happening is becasue Dawson met ALL Ward’s demands like the rest of Ward’s opponents. Floyd has nothing to learn from Ward since the only difference between them is that Ward found someone to give him whatever he wants. Manny should not learn from Dawson because Dawson made a bad deal, which is what Pac wants to avoid. One thing for sure is that Pac’s last fight just proved that a Manny Pacquiao loss is not being avoided by Arum or Pac. It would be stupid for Arum or Pac to be trying their best to avoid a loss to Floyd when they just lost to Tim. So I can’t see any reason for that camp to not want the fight unless it’s a bad money deal from their perspective.

Posted August 29, 2012 4:13 pm

Way bigger? It may be “bigger”, but way bigger?…That’s a stretch dude. The difference percentage wise between 525 and 540 is only 3%. That’s not that huge of a difference.

The ones who started the PED’s conspiracy are the one’s in deep fear. To see the fight now proves nothing since both have lost speed. As of now, because they are not in their prime, I’d rather see it if it were free, like on HBO Championship Boxing or Showtime….NOT PPV, Not Worth It, Not Now. Three years ago yes.

Posted August 29, 2012 3:43 pm

on top of that mayweather has made more in his last 9 fights then manny did in his last 15 fights 540 million to 525 million thats a way bigger draw add 6 more fights to mayweather
