thats what your judging vitali opponents on none of them were his size guess what at 6ft8 hardly no one is hissize he is to big and good for the big guys or guys close to his size. and to big for the small fast guys. the only one who ever stepped in the ring with vitali who had as good as skills as vitali was lennox lewis and its not there fault there to big and to good for everyone elese

Posted March 2, 2013 2:25 am

Wlad has faced much more quality than Vitali. Vitali may have been the better boxer but he fought very average opponents and none of them were his size. Wlad at least has fought one guy bigger than himself. Hoping to see more of this.

its no excuse if tyson didnt come in shape against douglas . funny ever time tyson lost it wasnt tyson making the excuses it was his fans . the guy had great power and speed but faded late in the fight and he was a small heavyweight . what happened with holyfield .

Posted February 28, 2013 6:00 am

Douglas fought well against Tyson but Tyson had hardly trained seriously for that fight. Douglas had the style to trouble Tyson, but he also faced him at the perfect time.

Posted February 28, 2013 5:30 am

vitali two losses was a injury in the byrd fight and there isnt any disgrace in getting stopped on a cut by lennox lewis in a war .when lewis was going good I dont know if amy one could have beat him . the only real flaw in lewis were the two kos he had wh ich he avenged besides rocky marciano vitali has the highest ko percentage of any heavyweight champ ever his resume is up with tysons

Posted February 28, 2013 2:17 am

I dont call anyone who steps in a ring a bum . but tyson first 20 fighters were against guys who werent even full time fighters so you can discount the first 20 or so kos . after that tyson stepped up the comp some . before he he koed a guy trevor berbick who was a champ . berbick was about as good a herbie hide . but still a world champ after winning the title tyson had 9 title defense against some pretty good guys a older larry holmes but stl holmes, x lightwight spinks and decisioned tucker agood big heavyweight but then tyson was koed by douglas at 23 some sy it was because he was finished by then I dont buy that.TYSON then went to jail. came out had a few good wins when he came out but then again he was koed by holyfield a true hall of famer thou not a hugh puncher and kinda small against lewis and bowe after that alls I remember of tyson being koed by lewis danny williams and kevin mcbride . tyson boxing career was nothing to be ashamed of but wasnt what lennox lewis was and nothing vitali klitchko career cant be compared to

Posted February 28, 2013 2:08 am

Tyson accomplished a TON early on he unifed the belts and defended 8 or 9 times… Tyson ran his record to 45-1 before the got taken by Holy and dropped 2… By the time Wlad Klits had 45 fights he had been knocked out 3X by nobodies, and Vitali had been stopped by Lewis and quit against Byrd LONG before he had 40 fights… Douglas caught him out there and thats not to be denied, I don’t think he was washed up when Buster got him either Mike was a REAL HW Champ at seriously young age and my larger point was that Vitali NEVER EVER unifed NOR was he EVER for more than ONE single year considered the BEST HW in the BIZ…. Tyson trumped him on both counts, Vitali is used to playing second fiddle to Wlad…

Posted February 27, 2013 5:20 pm

when you say lewis resumes is better then vitalis you have a point. but as far as tyson he lost against to manny good heavies douglas, holyfield, and lewis all beat him .. and I cant belive tyson was over the hill at 23 when he was lkoed by douglas It was more a matter of a big heavyweight boxer who could used his legs jabbed and boxed well douglas also had pretty good power. and that is the reason douglas beat tyson . not that tyson was finished at 23 . when tyson came out of jail about the age age 30? he beat a few pretty good heavies where he looked good. .but was then koed by holyfield granted tyson was over the hill by the time he f faced lewis and any losses after that . Tyson best wins were x light heavy spinks and a older holmes and a desision of tony tucker . but to me three ko loses to douglas holyfiels lewis cancel that out his great wins. and put a big damper on tyson resume

Posted February 27, 2013 4:09 pm

Vitali Klits resume does NOT really rate alongside his brothers and thats just a fact… He beat MORE of the relevant HW’s of the ERA captured all the belts and has defended successfully more times… Vitalis rep is based WAY too much off of a LOSS to Lewis, and the fact that no one has ever knocked him out… But as far as accomplishment Wladimir Klitschko is the BEST HW of this Era, Vitali NEVER came close to unifying or any other next level achievement the way Tyson and Lewis did and Wlad has pretty much done with the number of belts he has

Posted February 27, 2013 2:56 pm

Wlad Fan, I think Wlad Klitschko is CLEARLY the dominat HW of this Era and a first ballot HOFER so I don’t think he is a scrub… He beat Peter but he had to come off the canvas 3x to do it, which is fine but Peter was really broken by the older brother who beat him down… Peter was a clubbing fighter who was NEVER in David Tuas league, Tua was knocking out future World Champions (Rahman, Ruiz, Maskaev, Moorer) and no one ever took him out and he fought an ATG while the guy was on top of his game (Lewis)…..Who did Peter beat that was a big deal?

im not saying price can never become champ because the little bit I saw of the guy I know he has size looks like some power, moves pretty good . but it will all go to waste if he has no chin one ko is not a death sentence but to tell you the truth I dont like the way it happend. any one can be knocked down by a single punch . and thats bull that thompson cant punch at all .thompson is a 260 lb heavyweight with a decent resume he caught price . but I still belive price shuld have recovered from that one single punch .

Posted February 27, 2013 9:23 am

ON Price I don’t know what to think. On one had I started to believe he could rule the division some day, and sometimes I still do. On the other hand… his chin is a huge question mark now, he is almost 30 and his best wins are against guys you could put in the top 50 worldwide at best. Even as an amateur his achievements are good, but not great. Solis, Haye, Boytsjov, Povetkin have far better amateur resume. I suppose his next fight against a credible opponent will have to answer some of the big questions I have right now

Posted February 27, 2013 4:28 am

Maybe Vitali was the better boxer but Wlad has the best resume. He cleaned out the division really

Posted February 27, 2013 4:24 am

get price outta just the uk bring him to america put him in with a few guys like malik scot. good boxer good record not a big puncher durable teach him to hide his chin beat a few durable guys . then if thomsom hsnt lost by then match them up again..

Posted February 27, 2013 1:10 am

wlad fan im a big fan of both klitchkos I think its amazing when 2 brothers are champs there have been a few but never 2 brothers at the same time at hw champ . but in the past when a fighter gave wlad trouble the sent the iron jawed vitali out to get him. saunders and I belive it was the beating vitali gave sam peter that actually soften sam up no disrespect to wlad when they talk about the all time greats and whom would beat who I am some what hesistant about wlad chin but I have no such doubt about vitali and as far as heavyweights champs that I saw vitali the best ali next

Posted February 27, 2013 1:00 am

Kid Blast

Vitali may have just ne more fight in him. Wlad has several. His body is healhier and he now figts in long intervals. Wlad now rules the roost., though Pulev bears watching.

Sredmond: point taken…it just seems like the “bums” Wladimir fights are bums AFTER they are beaten by Wlad. Sam Peter is a prime example who was regarded as being a dangerous Tua-like puncher BEFORE he lost to WK. Of course, after the loss to Wlad he was never really the same…Peter was already a beaten man when he climbed into the ring for the second fight. On a side note, unlike most Klitschko fans I think Wladimir’s resume is actually superior to Vitali’s.

Price must rematch and win imo. If you cant beat a guy who cant punch then forget about HW boxing

Posted February 26, 2013 8:36 pm

Wlad Fan, I never thought of Price as MORE than a prospect and the fact is that we ALREADY knew that Wlad was going to dust Thompson so AFTER the first fight how much credit do you expect him to get?? Thompson knocking off some prospect at 41 is good for Thompson to make some extra $$$$ but it does not change the fact that his defeat to Klits was a foregone conclusion… Like I said Thompson has not been beating World Class fighters during his career, Owen Beck, Maurice Harris, Adnan Serin, Cliff Couser all scrubs…Price is looking lame getting taken like that by an OLD fighter who was not even at his best coming off a KO loss..

sredmond:just curious to know since you’re not a fan: do you think Thompson’s KO-ing of Price raises Wlad’s stock at all? Thompson’s only lost 3 fights and 2 were to Wlad. In my admittedly biased opinion there’s no shame in loosing to Wlad. I’m not saying that TT is some sort of world beater, but he’s better than some give him credit for.

I don’t care if Helenius head fell off his body it still means he LOST the fight…I am NOT a Chisora fan, in fact I had thought that Helenius would win but my eyes showed a fight where Helenius was dominated and Chisora was robbed, Dan Rafael, Freddie Roach and Vitali Klitschko saw the SAME I did…. NONE of them are “Chisora fans” per se… it was a terrible hometown decision and the idea that Helenius would beat Wlad absent a miracle is like the laugh track on a BAD sitcom…

Posted February 26, 2013 5:26 pm

Martain…The english have more money more capital put into sports then Ireland. Its like compareing America to Chile in the olympics ofcourse America would win more medals its bigger..richer..puts more resources into sports. But I think the irish have better fighters then the English overall. And even alot of the English boxers have some kind of celtic blood in them like..Reid..Saunders..Gavin..Hatton..many more. That is why I dont really care the English and Irish been living together for so looong many people on both sides can find Irish and English blood in them somewhere down the line. Many people living in England have irish blood in them and many in Ireland have some English blood in them…including myself. But lets face it the U.K. for such a small place had-has many many solid good fighters overall.Just think if the U.K. was the size of Russia or America…we would see many more.

Posted February 26, 2013 4:36 pm

Helenius -Chisora was close, much closer than many Del Boy fans think. You need only look Roberts face. There were not any mark – any at all and Helenius had bad hand injury. Have you ever heard that before Schred?? Helenius is more durable than Wlad and his chin is ten times better. His ability to change rhythm is something really special. Wladimir can outbox Helenius behind his jab, but if they go toe to toe result will be other.

Posted February 26, 2013 4:33 pm

Yes, the Irish are much better than the British at sports. That’s why the Irish got 5 medals at the Olympics (3 of which were bronze) while Great Britain only got 65 (29 of which were gold).

Heavyweights and conveniently forget to mention Lennox Lewis? Show me the USA
current heavyweight World Champion? FOOL!. Hype up our fighters do we? What about the
all-time American fraud Rocky “find me a bum” Marciano??… And POPKINS trying to claim
that Lennox Lewis isnt true British cos he boxed for Canada in the olympics?
Ok.. if the Olympics is so important to him… lets forget Muhammad Ali being ‘American’
seeing as he threw his Gold Medal in the river cos he despised the Country so much.
Muhammed Ali was villified across America for dodging the draft, for refusing to fight for his Country…. But he was good, so you ‘claimed him back’… hypocrites!!!!!

Price is not right

SREDMOND@ but let’s agree on one thing, Helenius is far better than the “bubble” Price. A fight I’d like to see would be Fury vs. Helenius in neutral land.

Posted February 26, 2013 1:28 pm

Wlad Klitschko would KILL Helenius he is FAR too strong and powerful a man for Helenius who is not going to be able to compensate with a superior skill set… Whats he gonna do bang with Wlad? once those right hands start landing his nights over Chisora had him backpedaling and looking like a fish out of water…

Posted February 26, 2013 1:20 pm

Man please EVERYONE who knows how to score a bout KNOW Helenius should have lost to Chisora and that includes Vitali Klitschko who fought Chisora based on him being robbed in Finland… 40 year old Sherman Williams who looked like a Gnome in the ring with Helenius did tag him hard and Robert was simply unimpressive… While Price getting layed out is WAY more definitive the point is that Helenius is another guy being pegged as a big deal and he has stalled out… I gave Helenius credit for at least being able to close out some old men as opposed to Price who got humiliated by a guy sporting a beer belly…

Posted February 26, 2013 1:09 pm

Wood eye Schredmond claims that Helenius is similar bubble than Price, but situation is totally different. Helenius has won three former champion, Price nobody. Helenius has granite chin. That punch he took in his last fight was ten time harder than Thompsons and caused just couple of salsa step. He has been in several hard fights with Peter, Liakowitch and Chisora and this last one with one hand. His last fight was not his best performance, but anyhow he won it clearly. Next fight on march against Sprot shows much more about his future. Helenius has all necessary tools as hitting power, size, durability and good chin to give Wladimir everything what he can handle.

Posted February 26, 2013 12:47 pm

It is very rear that heavy weight boxer go down with first single shot. Usually it takes at least two-three punch combo or several rounds to soften opponent like Vitali needs.
Thompson’s punch was soft and still it was too much for Price. Prices’ chin was suspect but until now we know that it is class of his own. Price has good offensive tools, maybe the very best in division, but his defense is poor and with that kind of chin it is impossible to think that he one day rules division.

Apparently Joe Bugner fancies a comeback against price, id say Big Joe in 4

Posted February 26, 2013 12:13 pm

Slowly? he was brought along slow Thompson was not a monster challenge he should get right back in with Thompson and try and put that ghost behind him.. He knows the Grandpa can hurt him now so its up to him to try and adjust..

Posted February 26, 2013 11:40 am

Curtis Lowe

Why would Price’s management consider putting him in with Chisora? I am not a Chisora fan, but he would the second best fighter Price had ever fought next to Thompson.

Price needs to be brought back slowly so he can get his confidence back. If he fights anyone decent in his first comeback fight, that will be the end of him.

Posted February 26, 2013 11:18 am

I think the issue is that Price was being billed by some as the heir apparent to the Klits or a guy who was going to challenge soon for a title…His being unable to deal with Thompson in a more effective manner certainly casts doubt on that… Face it he did not even make it to 20 fights and he got KOed…The guy is pushing 30 so that has to be taken into account….Reality is that where Price falls in the pantheon of current HW’s has to be markedly decreased…Besides who wil he be fighting next to rebuild and will they be worthy comp or guys to build confidence AKA bums or scrubs? Seth Mitchell was waxed and he is getting RIGHT back in with Banks… I think if Price wants to show he had a bad night he should utilize a rematch clause assuming one is in place… Thompson is an old man who should be there for the taking…

Okey David Price was cought with a good shot from an expearenced former 2-time world heavyweight title challanger and was knocked-out, well that can happen to any boxer. in any fight and there is no shame for David Price to lose to Tony “The Tiger” Thompson. Thompson is a recognised top contender and even now at 41 he is still an decent opponent and Price underestimated his older opponent. I still see David Price as an promising contender material and like I said, he lost but he can learn a lot from this just like Wladimir Klitschko have learned a lot from his 3 career losses.

Posted February 26, 2013 10:47 am

Face Facts Price was a prospect, nothing more nothing less… Lets not inflate his standing in the sport he had not really accomplished anything of note to date.. No top 10 fighters on his resume at this point where he goes from here is anyones guess just like it is with other unvetted fighters who get their melons cracked early on… I do find it ominous that unlike even guys like that coward Povetkin (Byrd) or the overhyped Helenius (Brewster, Peter, Sergei) he (Price) could not get past an OLD man with something of a name….

Irish are inferior to English, they have an inferiority complex, that’s why there are so many Irish jokes, they are actually a bit daft.

Posted February 26, 2013 7:59 am

The title is not a valid question. Price does have a glass chin. It’s been proven in his amateur days. He’s got average skills at best and was caught. Whether he’s British or not is not relevant IMO

Posted February 26, 2013 7:58 am

Have to agree with that. Odds were something silly like 80-1 in that round….betting scam? Who knows…Fury could still do big things. Much more talented.

Posted February 26, 2013 7:22 am

“arguably the most exciting British Heavyweight prospect since Audley Harrison”?? Really, not the also undefeated British guy who held the British and Commonwealth belts right BEFORE Price, nobody ever mentions him do they.
Also, Muhammad Ali bizarrely enough is actually quite Irish indeed. His grandfather comes from Clare and his genealogy can be traced to people living there still. Obviously he’s American first and foremost but he’s still a great deal more Irish that all the American presidents who go looking for their roots to win the Irish-American vote. Barcak Obama for the record is one sixty-fourth Irish.

Posted February 26, 2013 5:21 am

lets be honest its not looking good for Pricey, any Heavyweight worth their salt will be licking their chops to fight the big chinny yin now,and who would blame them when a ko looks like it could happen when caught(and not even flush)with a decent shot..

Posted February 25, 2013 10:34 pm

Price can take this as a learning opportunity. Plenty of tests out there. Chisora is a great UK pressure fighter. Sam Peter a one dimensional slugger who can take alot and KO an elephant. Taller guys like Michael Grant and Ustinov who can reach price and hit hard but are not at the top of the division. Audley remtach, Audley has improved maybe go a few rounds with him. Every fight is dangerous but Thompson is a fox. He played a stronger, bigger, more athletic guy. Price just needs to be busy and learn the craft. Blowing guys out early is great but he was not learning anything. When he faced a skilled crafty heavy got out played. Fury is actually doing the right think fighting guys like Johnson and Cunningham. The are not power houses or giants but they are skilled slick guys who know the tricks and he is learning from them

Alot of the champs from America like..Sullivan..Tunney..Dempsey..Braddock..Morrison(WBO)..were irish american and even at that time there were Polish..Dutch..German..French..even some Russians living here aswell. Now I dont know if you would consider these people British but there forefathers came from the island at some time right? I dont know if this is correct in what the story is trying to say…but its something I threw out which in some way could have a distance connection.

Arguably Great Britain has never had a true, British world heavyweight champion in the history of the gloved era. Fitzsimmons left Cornwall for New Zealand when he was about 8, Lewis won an Olympic gold for Canada before changing his nationality back to British, and Haye and Bruno won aphabet belts – not the linear title.

that idiot comment trying to out do wlad klitchko by knocking out thompson faster then wlad did or trying to knock out chisora when vitali could not is a foolish statment. This guy price has to rebuild his career take one fight at time and learn how to use his height and reach to protect his suspect chin. others have done it bfore . maybe it was just a big left who found his chin so easy. maybe not I dont know . but i do know this he better forget about koing a guy faster then the klitchkos do . if he ever did . Do you think the klitchko are worrying about who price is knocking out when they fight? He is a long way off from the klitchkos

I’ve watched a whole lot of boxing matches in my time but I don’t think I’ve EVER seen a fighter KO’d by such an innocuous punch. I mean really, he was felled so easily that I’d have sworn he’d taken a dive if that suggestion were not, in this instance, totally implausible. Together with the fact that Price was known for a suspect chin as an amateur and had never yet been meaningfully tagged as a professional, it’s enough for me to write him off. The idea that either he or Fury will ever pose a serious challenge to the Klitschkos is fanciful indeed.
